Need to rant.....

There are several Kroger stores in my city, I work in the absolute worst one! Not because of my co workers, they are great.....it is the customers! 

I need advice on how to deal without getting fired.  I have been yelled at, belittled and even had an item thrown at me.  My guess is that at least 80% of the payments received there are ebt and wic, I am not dogging poor people, just the total lack of basic human courtesy given to any employee working there. The company is always pushing smile and talk to everyone you see. I feel you have to be defensive before you can even think about being nice. Constantly trying to deceive and open stealing.  I seriously have stories for days.

I can't transfer to a different store because this one is so close to me. Just hoping to make it through the winter before I look for employment elsewhere. Hopefully in a quiet place where I work alone! I thought I was a people person but a few months here have taken that from me. 

So many things management could do there to make it a more pleasant shopping and working experience but I guess giving out candy at checkouts is their answer to trying to make customers nicer and yes, usually the container is gone in less than 10 minutes because a customer will dump whole container in their purse as soon as it is seen.

Someone please pray for patience for me and the ability to keep my mouth shut when I want to be a jerk back to them!

Anyway, Yeah, customers can be total a-holes. Mostly because the cashier responds to their hostile behavior with the same intensity and malice that is thrown at them. The way that I've found that works best is to pass the angry customer off to a supervisor or manager. We're not paid enough to deal with them.

Always stay calm. You only see them once. I've had people call me "stupid". To which I respond with "Thanks for noticing! It's one of my better traits! Would you like me to call for a manager?" Normally they tell me no and get confused and walk away when they get agreed with, hehe.

I had one customer call me a stupid ******* one time and I grinned back saying " yes I am sir. And the best part of it is... NOBODY can do ANYTHING about it." Yes, that got him EVEN MORE pissed and he stalked off. What can he honestly do? Turn me into management?

Just do your best, and be polite. 'Kill em with kindness,'

I don't let any two-legged pigs that shop at our store get to me; it's a skill. My motto is: I DON"T CARE...thanks.

Good luck. Kroger has some of the douchiest customers on the planet and if you don't kiss each and every one of their asses wearing bright red lipstick while you do it, management will threaten to fire you. Plus, they can tattle on you by name using the customer survey.

The only solution is the numb the pain with serious drug and alcohol problems. Just being honest here.

 Drug and alcohol problems are what get many people into retail. :)

The rest seem to be on prescription pills . . . as many as seven varieties, in the case of one associate manger.

Excuse me a moment, I need to find the uplink to the Hubble telescope so I can read what you wrote.

The customers are ALWAYS right even when they are not. You know that, I know that, but the jackasses who shop at Kroger will exploit that.

Just look at the 'Make it Right' campaign. Yea. Because THAT worked out so well.

 This lady comes in about 3 times a month just to get something free. She always gets free stuff from the seafood case. Than she has the ****ing nerve to roll up on her motorized scooter and say flash that stupid "Make it right" sticker. How in the hell doesn't someone get in trouble. She always gets out with some cuts of meat or fish but once i saw her with an ass-ton of Crab legs.

I apologize for the small text.  I wrote it on my phone and it seemed too huge to use any other font size on there, now I know!

Thanks to the person/people who started this forum.  It is nice to read through and see so many people that are going through a similar nightmare.
