My job apparently called up my parents, because my step father is working in the Realestate department, and was apparently going to fire me because I'm working 'too slow'. I'm not sure what goes along the lines of being a slow worker, because, despite the fact that I haven't been properly trained on both Cashier and Dairy, which they've moved me to without my consent or knowledge, I still do the best to my ability. I'm not getting complaints from any of my coworkers, and none of the managers even mentioned anything along the lines of me being too slow. Got any advice on how I should bring this up to them, or just handle the situation entirely?
I'm 19, and haven't moved out just yet, for those who were gonna ask me of my age. And I was got into Kroger as a last resort because many of the other jobs I applied to wouldn't give a call back or so.
If you live with them, then your home number may have been your contact information on file.
They call, your parents answer, and for some reason instead of asking for a message, OR talking to you directly while you were at the store, your dumbass manager(s) decided to keep talking and talk to your parents. Which in some way probably violates a confidentiality something-or-other down the line, especially if you are an adult.
You are an adult. Kroger has no business telling your parents that. Your CSM or store managers need to speak to/coach you directly while you are on the clock if they have a problem with your work habits. Very abnormal to get a call at home to tell you that you are too slow. Did whoever call leave a name? Ask your store manager directly if they ever call up a persons parents. Then explain the call.
Either someone is playing a prank on you or your dad called the store manager and asked about you and initiated the call.
Dairy and Cashier are better to learn by the seat of your pants with the job training. Sink or swim training is what I call it.
As a cashier, be cautious to make sure you handle the money correctly. Learn functions from others as you go.
As for Dairy, you kids have it easy. You don't even have to mark anything with a price gun anymore. Fill the eggs, fill the milk, run a case of yogurt, fill the eggs, fill the milk(make sure you fill the cooler by the registers this time :)), clean up a spill, then repeat over and over until they call you up to ring on a register. More, More ,faster, faster!!! I have helped out in Dairy during Easter and gallons of milk 10 for $10. Eggs and Milk were enough to keep one person busy the whole shift....
If you have been working there for more than 2 months and are in the union, they can not fire you for working too slowly. You could scan 10 items per minute and they can certainly harass you about it, but they can't fire you.
What they can do is look for other things to fire you for. If you buy anything in the store and don't leave immediately, keep your receipt. Don't take free samples. I've seen them say that people are stealing to get them fired.
