I want off the front end!

Been at my store well over a year... And I want to now try my hand at another department.

I can't stand the belittlement and overall rudeness I've lately gotten from my supervisors...

Any and ALL times I'm asked to stay longer... I have. Every. Single. Time.

I  might not always answer my phone when I'm called to come in (because it happens EVERYDAY), but I always always stay or come in early when asked... hell, if they ask me while I'm working to come in on so-and-so day, I'm there!

I don't want to be. I hate doing it... but I have a really hard time saying no.

I loathe to admit, but I've allowed myself to get walked on far too many times.

All to keep my job and keep things 'running smoothly'.

But I am not happy. Far from it.

I busted my ass ALL day today. Got a cell phone shoved in my face and the first words I hear are 'You lying bitch!'... because a customer's card was being declined.

It was a rough day. But I powered through!

I was supposed to get off at 12:pm (6am to 12pm), but I waited till' about 12:10pm for the person coming in... Which I have no problem doing!

I do it all the time!

Hell! I was supposed to get off at 12:pm before one time, and waited till' 2pm for someone to relieve me... No extra break! No lunch! I'd been there since 6:am and my only break was a 15 min back at 9:am...

Somehow that ended up being MY fault too.

Why didn't I say anything? (I did. Was told to hand on a little longer.)

Why didn't I take a lunch? (I'm on effin' SCO I can't just go take a lunch!)

And the best part was, after that they told me to 'hang in there' but if I need them THEY were going on lunch...

So, 12:10 rolls around and I'm like hey... better say something, my ride's here.

I don't know WHEN the perfect time is to mention it... how long should I stand there before I go, 'hey! Gotta go!' without it looking like I'm trying to practically fly outta there...

And as soon as I say something, they send the girl to another register...

I'm like what the hell man... So, we go over to the paper to see who's coming in (it's the saaaaame girl, like I JUST said) and he mumbles something... I go back to my register because no one is saying anything and I have a customer... And I get told to cut my light. It's realllllly busy, so I asked 'Are you sure?'.

I get a snappy response of 'If you gotta go, you gotta go.'.

Real nasty.

The bagger talking to him does that barking 'oooooooh' thing because, y'know, it's not embarrassing enough right?

I'd have had NO problem staying. I have NO problem waiting for 'relief' to show up. I'm not the kind of cashier to bail as soon as the clock strikes 'OFF'.

And he never asked me to!

But damn, really? He's gonna get pissed for just ASKING what should I do? Never once have I gotten a thank you for staying all the previous times...

I didn't even decline TO stay. But the fact that I'm a bit 'curious' of when I can get the hell outta here... really?

I want to move to a different apartment.

I don't want to look for a new job . I want to stay at my store because, despite the supervisors being total *******s, the managers are nice...

How does one do that? Who should I talk to?

Lots of others have moved over for those very reasons, I now want to do the same.

(Btw, I am the same anon as before whom got 'promoted' for 3 hours... This is a minor thing at best I'm sure. An snappy remark like that. I'm totally used to it. You have to be on the front end. But it was a very long day. Horrible. Was called nasty names left and right. And JUST when the day started to get better... And by the only other 'nice' supervisor too...? Wow. It's amazing. I want out. I gotta go. I need to find a better department because the front end is starting to go to ****. And I want no part of it.)

By the way...

If this seems more like a rant than anything... It is.

Just a bit steamed right now...

But I actually am curious as to how one goes to another department and who one should talk to.

By gong directly to store management, let them know you're having some issues with the front end and would rather get into a different department.  Just let them know what you want to do, ask if there's anything open. If there is, they'll let you know and then you can get with them and HR to go over everything. If not? They'll let you know if they remember.

At my store when a supervisors or manager tries to make me do the job there getting paid for I let them know to **** off.

You struggle there because you ARE a great worker and yet those who are NOT suffer no consequence for showing up late, etc.. So you have to bear the brunt of that BS and more.
One of the reasons I left after asking to transfer and no one listening or caring whether I stayed or left.
That's just about the jist of it at Kroger-NO ONE CARES. You look out for yourself and learn to say NO.

You are a cashier.  If you move to another department, you will be called for surge help all the time.  Then you will be expected to always finish the work in your department, even though you've been on the register half the day.  They did it to me.  I was worn out every day from walking back and forth and back and forth to the front end.  I was in DrugGM and Floral and they always called me first for surge help, because I had been a cashier for two years.  You start work in your department, get called to the register.  On your way back to your department you get stopped by customers asking where things are.  Then you finally get back to your department, only to be paged for surge help again.  It's a vicious cycle.  I hated it so much I just up and quit.

I've worked a lot of jobs in my life, Kroger is the worst company I have ever worked for.

Learn to say no.

I actually had to learn to do so when I was there. I had no problems doing what was needed, but messing with my plans after I get off work (or supposed to) or on my days off? Yeah, that couldn't happen. So I did have to let my phone die or just tell them nope I just can't. I'm not there anymore, but even at my new job I've learned to say no because otherwise they'll expect it, and if you don't get paid enough to deal with the **** they give you, it ain't worth it.

you dont ever have to stay past a time even if they ask you (and theyre only allowed to ask 2 hours before youre scheduled to leave). always at the exact time turn off your light (or a few mins before if its busy) and leave. you dont get paid enough to deal with bs and you dont owe them anything.

Learn to say no. If they're gonna treat you like crap after bending backwards for them, scew them over when it's SUPER busy and leave at your designated time (beware of "revenge" if you do so.) don't come in on your days off either.

We had this one female supervisor who was a major bitch. I bent over backwards for her coming in on my day off, cutting my vacations short with NO compensation, stayed late etc. You think she was greatful? Nope. The last straw was when she called me a worthless employee from a worthless family. I ignored her. Come a week or two later we were INSANELY busy and she wanted me to. One in on my day off. I told her "Sorry (not) I can't (won't) come in. She kept begging and I kept saying no. She was near tears but I STILL refused. Came in the next day and I'm surprised I'm still alive. The look she have me was so full of hate, I was honestly worried for a moment. She got fired a week later, but she still comes in from time to time to shop, and I STILL get those glares.

Yea you will unfortunately get those types with Kroger.

I related the story of my FEM whom, upon seeing me come in one day shortly after I started my second job, saw me at the deli area at the check out.
She came over and picked up a few items. Standing right next to me.

I saw it as an attempt at intimidation that wouldn't be able to be used for the union, and she knew it.

Sad how Kroger gets those types.
