No MOD after 11PM?

Is it standard practice to not have any managers on staff after 11PM, in a 24 hour store?

Just came back from the Kroger I used to work at, but I always got off before 11. I tried to buy some alcohol, and the self checkout attendant said she couldn't sell to me because there is no manager (front end or co-manager, or any manager at all) after 11PM.

There's always someone there. If it's not a co-manager then it should be the grocery manager, frozen food lead, grocery backup, something above a regular clerk in charge of the store.

There's always someone on deck in charge, like the last respondent said. Sounds like that person didn't want to bother themselves to get some one for you. Happens.

Umm how old was the self check out person? i mean unless its a state law in your area, they can sell it to you regardless if their was a manager there or not. that person probably just believed you were underaged or something fishy..OR just an idiot

There is usually ALWAYS a PIC (person in charge) there. Otherwise how would the store function? It is possible, but only if you have people there working flawlessly together. And only if it's a television show. Lol. But seriously, it can be done. We had no MOD at our store once and someone designated themselves as "manager for a day" and it worked out fine. I bet if a reg customer asked for liquor, they'd hunt someone down with a key to retrieve it.

They might be a store that has to lock up alcohol and no one has a key after 11.

OP Here:

No state law prohibiting the sale, except on Sundays, and this was a Thursday night.

The alcohol wasn't locked away. She said it was because I have a vertical I.D. (Got the liscense when I was 18, so it says under 21. But my date of birth is shown and clearly indicates I'm 22. I dont feel like paying money to the state and spending a whole day at the DMV for a new liscense when mine ddoesn't expire for 4 more years.)

Sorry, you do look too young for your age.  hehe.  (I was going to post that you look sketchy but didn't want to completely insult you.)

It is better for the cashier to be safe than sorry.  TABC does random stings.  The store gets a huge fine and the cashier can be fired if Kroger sells to a minor.

It depends on the state you live in.  Here in AZ you have 30 days after you turn 21 to exchange your vertical license for a horizontal one.  After the 30 days pass that vertical license is no longer valid for age restricted purchases.  Doesn't matter if you are clearly over 21.  After a month, it's not valid.

Not in Georgia. The license is valid until it expires.
