As a UC it pisses me off to no end sometimes if I am bagging near them. That voice annoys me, the customers trying to steal annoy me, and mostly when they look at me when I am bagging an order nearby for help, that also annoys me. Because either you can't tell that the bag area is not an area for a small baby cart and that yes I feel nothing bad about telling you "I'll get you some help in just a sec ma'am" because they come to me after I tell them and they still want me to stop what I am doing to unlock the machine for them (WTF are you coming to me for, I'm not on Uscan, I'm bagging and am busy right now, I told you I'd get you some help, just hold your horses.) 

"Please wait while we verify your bags." 

"Can you help me, it's locked over there." 

"Self Checkout isn't my department ma'am, but I'll find someone who can help you after I finish here, ok?"

(agitated voice) "fine"

"Please wait while we verify your bags."

(finishes order) (insert cashier name or CSR) "can you unlock 10 please for bag verification."

 

Was that so freaking hard? No! 

 

And no if you ask me to help you at Self Check if I am not busy I will be happy to show you and assist if needed, but anything that requires a cancellation, bag check, or override, I can't do and will promptly pass you to the correct person to assist you with that. I can cancel one item for you, but me tapping "cancel item" it's not going to squat without an unlock, so I generally will get the Cancel screen up and walk through the list with them first, but then will hold them in the cancel screen and get the CSR or Uscan attendant since as soon as "cancel item" is pushed, its going to lock down anyway.

Don't even get me started on liquor. Liquor always makes me very nervous when no Uscan attendant is around them and I'm bagging near them. When it flags, and I hear the glass clinking, yea I perk up my hearing and peek over to see what locked up and call out across the floor to the service desk to get them some help (and make sure the customer doesn't try to bypass the lockout)

Uscan people how do you do it? It seems like more hell then its worth.

I would never agree to work the self scan position. It's boring when there aren't any customers and it's frustrating when there are customers because of how many issues can come up, so it's a lose-lose. I've seen it so bad at times that a majority of customers need help at the same time, and good luck choosing who to help first because no matter who you do, the others are going to be steaming mad because you didn't assist them first.

I see plenty of people that use self-scan without any difficulty, but the ones that do have trouble can get pretty rude/loud/obnoxious even when it's their error because they couldn't follow simple instructions.

I will say this though... speaking as someone that buys groceries through self scan at both Kroger and Walmart, Kroger's self scan machines are faster and easier to use. I tend to have to "wait for assistance" at Walmart's machines more frequently than Kroger's when I don't even need assistance to begin with, but the machine thinks that I do.

Ha, one time I told the customer it's "you" scan not me scan, how I didn't get in trouble I don't know but honestly the words just flew out of my mouth

I work self check @ store and i keep coustomers going but those days when im off and i come in quick to get something and i go through self check and i have stand there and help like 5 people becuase the idiot they put over there on my days off is some where there not suppost to be and amd i have to fix the dam register and then check my self out and rhen there always be a broken one and i go on it and there is no one to take the cash so i to go manually  input into the stand and get the change myself.
