There's a current opening for a midnight stocker in a nearby store (I'm a starbucks barista in a Kroger) but it's not on the bid list. Could I contact my store manager and ask for a transfer?
Since I'm part-time, I've heard conflicting things like:
1. I need to quit then re-apply (lolwut)
2. wait for the job to go on a bid list
3. talk to store manager
Our department has a high burn out rate because of treatment by management and I want to do something that I used to do years ago. I've also put my name on the bid list as a Clicklist selector to two different stores as well. I used to work for a local midwest grocery chain as an 2nd shift grocery stocker for almost 5 years. The experience pay did not transfer and I make as much as a Courtesy Clerk. v_v
How do you know there is an opening at another store?
There will only be a bid if there is an opening for a full time position.
If you are considered part time, you have to quit and rehire at that store as part time. That is what I was told by another night manager that wanted me to work on his night crew when I was part time. I have seen an instance where a part time was transferred to another store and kept seniority. I think their dad knew someone in Kroger corporate management. There are rare instances when a part time can get a transfer thru HR if there is too much hostility among coworkers.
Best thing to do is ask the store manager where the opening is at. If the are desperate to fill the position, they might be able to make it happen for you to transfer.
btw, the grass is not always greener on the other side. I am a night crew manager and it is rough.
