I'm old in my early 50s, my body is worn out from working nights in grocery. I feel like I just can't take it any longer. I always need help getting my work finished and if I don't get the help, it gets done the next night with back stock or a co-manager finishes it during the day. I'm surprised that I haven't gotten into trouble over it, maybe they feel sorry for me and know that I am not doing it on purpose, that I really am worn out. Now the grocery manager is leaving to work days in a different department, and the grocery backup doesn't want the job. So, they are looking for a new grocery manager, I talked to my store manager about getting training as a grocery backup and getting certified, so that if it happens again losing a grocery manager, then I can step up to the plate and do it. The store manager said that they will think about it, but didn't give me a yes or a no. What I would like to do is become a department head so that I can step up and get into store management. How long do you have to be a department head before getting into store management? But it is all such a head-ace and with my age maybe I should forget it, and think about early retirement.
I find it funny that people say that people get promoted to management because of being racial minorities or women. Probably about 75% of managers I've seen are white (not counting the white hispanic ones) and about 90% men.

Which only proves that represents the area you live in, which itself represents a minority demographic.
Nope. You're not getting it. Sorry, but that's the reality.
It used to be a qualified applicant like yourself could advance on their own ambition----in retail, those days are gone.
Now they come to you, and it's all based 100% on favoritism and minority/female status.
While I don't see overt favoritism for minorities in my division, I do see RUNAWAY favoritism for females. They have CREATED positions just to promote females so The Krog doesn't get a lawsuit slapped on them like Walmart did.

They are white males because the rest are lazy and quit when they see the workload and hours. Think about all the females managers at your store that have left...yep.
The original poster here my 30 year anniversary is coming up at the end of this year, maybe I should retire early. I'm tired of the Big K and maybe I should find a better company to work for and I want everyone know I'm a white male so i probably wouldn't get it anyway, and the store manager is a white female. How do you put in for retirement anyway, who do you call to make sure you get your pension when the time comes. What is the process one must go trough in order to retire early?
