I've seen many changes through the years but it feels like everything that's taken place (especially recently) is so that any dumbass off the street can come in and get a job. We have to label everything. "blue pallets, RPCs, bread. No ****, we're not stupid, we don't need signs on everything! Even under the checklanes there are labels for "trash can" "paper towels" Is this "progress"? Has the population become so stupid that we have to draw diagrams for every damn thing?
I'll answer my own questions:
progress: more like regression
population: far less competent than they used to be.
It is worse now. It was about twelve years ago when the older good people started retiring at corporate Kroger and new people started coming in at corporate who in my opinion never worked at the store level and does not know what it is like to work in the stores. They need to actually work a few weeks right in the stores and see what we go through with. I think maybe they would change their tunes. Customers are not right all the time.
back then you had people who actually had experience running things. now you have people promoted by race or gender and mostly women and college kids running things into the ground.
They labeled everything to try to make it so anyone(min wage) could just be put in any spot and work. Now they realize that is not possible with the quality of employees and the actual workload. That was like 20 different corporate moron ago tho, they already have many new things after that failing in our stores. But as long as we give away sale items at loss, the customers will keep coming.
Actually labeling things, getting rid of things that are not needed, etc is all part of an organizing system called 5S. Kroger probably adopted some of these things and that's why everything's labeled. It's a little annoying, but it's not calling anyone stupid. It's so if something is missing or out of place then it's easy to see. I work in an engineering office (no longer at kroger!) and we have to do the same thing.
I get labeling things, but when getting rid of things we don't need, "streamlining" if you will, they overlooked things like the DDP. What a complete waste of time. If you can't look at a schedule and see what kind of help you have that day, you don't need to be a manager, dept head, etc.
