Hi everybody,

Had a quick question, which most likely could be answered once I look into it more in my contract. But I was just curious over all as to how many times employees can be written up in general?

I ask because, I guess do to getting tired of telling the majority of us in the bakery the same thing over and over again. Our manager, was like "If you guys, can't start condensing stuff down in the freezer(which is key to our survival, he says)/putting the remaining few items from one box into another like boxed item. I'll have to start writing people up."

Which given so many people come in from various shifts and likely do it all the time. And given how rushed they have us at times, that some of us don't really take the time to condense/combine things because they are like onto the next thing. So boxes just get shoved back into the freezer real quick, rather in the right spot or not. So all of that leaves me feeling like the whole dept. is going to be written up after a while. As I doubt he is going to care enough to really be checking to see who is or isn't condensing stuff down(I have been, since he first mentioned it to me. But I still refer to my initial point about the dept. head and manager rushing us around so much it's hard to actually get it done. As often).

So back to my main question. How many write-ups can you get before you are suspended or fired?

I could be wrong but i think it'd take a lot of writeups for that to actually get suspended/fired, because that's really just something more they'd want you to work on with your manager.

That said, i'm glad you're doing it because condensing is very important, especially now that they want us all to have spots for everything in the freezer. :) I wouldn't be that uptight about it to write anyone up, but getting rid of boxes is always good.

I always fuss when I go in the freezer and pick up a box and there's a handful of cookies left in it or a box of cake layers has just one or two cakes left in it.  I also fuss when people don't put things back where they belong, especially cookies.  I have the shelves marked.  One  column each of chocolate chip, sugar, and oatmeal on three shelves.  Candy cookies together. Peanut butter cookies together.  Soft tops together.  Gourmet cookies together.

Notice how all the chocolate chip, sugar, and oatmeal cookies are all in neat columns.  It makes it so much easier when it comes to ordering or when doing inventory.  Of course the same people who don't put things back where they belong are the same people who constantly leave things on top of the scales even after you post signs telling them not to.

lol.  I do not work in the Bakery.  But, as 4hourrush posted, it is important.

I heard about a night grocery manager that ran around with a write-up pad spending the night writing everyone up.  She didn't last long as the night manager.  Everyone slowed down and turned on her.

I either read on this site or heard about another Department manager that made their own write-up warnings at home and handed them out.

Email your union rep. and ask if those write-ups are valid.  Not the one in the store, the Rep for the district.  Never sign a write-up.  Most can be canceled unless you sign it.

Not sure what your contract says.  Mine says nothing about productivity.  Show up on time, do your work at your best, follow directions, go home.  If you are out of probation,  then they are going to have a difficult time firing you.  But, they can make your work life miserable.

 Oh I don't disagree with the manager or 4hourrush about the condensing thing. As it does kind of annoy me too when having to do truck and peeps don't think to open the new box and put the few remaining items in the new one. Just to make more room. Most especially as we can't have things loose on a shelf.

I just would hate to get written up constantly cause he is ticked off at someone else for what is going on. So I will definitely have to get into contact with the union rep to see how things will go down.

And yea, I'm a month out from my probationary period and I will make for damn sure I'm not signing anything that I'm unsure of. Definitely appreciate the heads up for that too.

I actually like that system for the cookies. My manager did come up with a bit of a looser system though, where the hot ones and private selection cookies are on the top of the cart. In the middle is the soft tops and on the bottom is the 16 ct at the bottom. Even had one of my co-workers helping to organize it yesterday as she likes to organize stuff. And I'm sure it will look awesome when it's all put together.

But I'll be honest and say, unless we have a little more leeway in being able to put stuff away properly, then I have a feeling it will be disorganized all over again. Most especially when peeps do truck. They just toss stuff on the upper parts of the carts. And although I can reach most things. I swear it's crazy when you are using the step ladder and STILL can't reach stuff cause it's like 3 or 4 freaking boxes high!

I think there should be write-ups for that at times. Especially on the Angel Food, nearly falling off the step ladder wrestling those boxes down is definitely a safety issue.

Yea, I think it's just a combo of the manager being new and kind of bumping heads with the dept. head at times with things. So peeps in the middle might be catching a bit of flack at times as the end result and hence the thing with the write-ups also. But yea, I definitely see your point about removing the extra boxes.

Although I'll be honest and say that, when he was first telling us about the whole condensing stuff down thing. In reference to finding one of the small pudding cakes in a box by itself, I was totally thinking "where did you find that? I've been looking for those for weeks now." Haha
