4 and 6 hour shift: 1 15 minute break. 7 hour shift: 2 15 minute breaks. 8 hour shift: 2 15 minute breaks or 1 30 minute lunch, your choice. 8-and-a-half hour shift: 2 15 minute breaks and 1 30 minute lunch. Your time in between will vary depending on how busy the lanes get and when your cart hours are. Sometimes you will be let known and sometimes you will have to ask if you can go on break or lunch.

Some states have a deposit on glass and plastic bottles.  The Kroger stores in those states have bottle rooms for customers to return the bottles.

Scary because it is machinery that sometimes gets jammed.  Most of the time it is full bins that are easy to change out with proper training.  Other than that, it is general house cleaning.

prepare for people not to properly instruct you or tell you what to do. when i got hired in as a CC, it was a nightmare. minimal training, getting thrown into the work environment with 0 experience, and being expected to do 5 things that i have no idea about whatsoever. its all about asking questions when you work here. no matter how pestering you may seem asking questions, it's a hell of a lot better than getting scolded for something they SHOULD have taught you on the first day. talk to your fellow baggers, as they more often than not will gladly show you the ropes. ask them how to work bottle room, where the mop buckets are, spill magic, garbage bags, etc. (you'll be doing more cleaning than bagging in a lot of circumstances). get familiar with pushing carts and how the cart straps work. its the most physically demanding part of the job and you have to do it quite often, but don't worry about being a super hero and pushing 20 carts at a time. treat it as a break from the front end and take your time and look busy. you'll get major cred from your supervisors. also be prepared for a lot of people to treat you like a moron and probably get upset with you over petty things (customers and co workers alike) but you just have to shake it off and don't let it dig too deep. the first couple months are going to completely suck in every way and your patience will be tried like no other, but just keep your cool, be nice, get along with your co workers, supervisors, and management. show up on time, do your job, be courteous (you ARE a courtesy clerk, after all), and in a few months time, you'll be a pro and you'll settle into a good routine without managers having to tell you what to do. good luck! biggrin

Wow, love the "look' of the bottle room. I'm in IN so I don't know about the bottle recycling stuff. Are you in Oregon?  I wish they would pass those "bottle bills" here in Indiana since I understand that anyone can turn in bottles, plastic and glass, and get paid 5 cents for each one??  Is that true??

There is SO MUCH litter on the roadways, parking lots, etc around here, and it would be fun to go around and "pick up nickels off of the ground" and clean up our environment.

COMMENTS, please, from anyone working in the Bottle Bill states!! Thanks!!!!

Michigan has them.  It is a 10 cent deposit!  You could make more working for Kroger tho.  lol.

I enjoy getting the deposit back.

I'm in Michigan and the bottle law is pretty cool, the only problem is that, as a CC, that is only adds to your worries, especially on any game days and holidays. We usually have a person on shift for just bottles incase a machine has an issue and just general upkeep. I was scared of them too, but you get use to them. It's actually a nice break from the front end
