In talking to our store's union rep, he said to me that they are going to start negotiations earlier than usual starting in February as they are not sure what will happen specifically with insurance issues due to the new presidential administration. I told him in an email we need the following: Better pay rates for front end (duh!), profit sharing
(this company is making money hand over foot and we aren't seeing a dime), managers must be able again to give merit increases (he said not likely as it would "show favoritism" to certain employees, I said that safeguards would be put in place to prevent this), CLOSED Thanksgiving and Easter (as Publix is in this area), implementation of sick days, better choices for health insurance besides Kaiser (my doctor doesn't accept their insurance or any govt-backed insurance), we used to have Blue Cross but that was before I was hired, one hour lunch (most companies that have an 8 hour work day have a one hour lunch-I said that 2 15 min breaks don't cut it, limits on the number of special-needs people hired (we have to babysit them in our store and we aren't paid enough to do this!!), written policies in place to deal with abusive customers, plus a few other things I can't think of offhand.
Wonder what the chances are we will get some of these items in the new contract? He was in agreement with me that we are "real close" in this area/region to a strike and since we don't have a strike fund, how the hell am I to pay my bills if we walk?!?
While I like all of your ideas! There is no way you will get any of that! Union is in bed with Kroger! All the union cares about is their own salaries!
