Why no news out on the UFCW Local 1996 team contract negotiation update from last Friday March 10?

Hopefully the UFCW team can earn their union dues and not negotiate on their knees with Kroger management. Especially in Atlanta's best labor market in about 15 years since the Olympics in mid 1990's. And Walmart at min $10 per hr since February 2016, with NO UNION. If these guys can't get new starting pay of $10.50 per hr entry level and top pay across the board increase in the $3.25 or greater for ALL PAY GRADES of employees and the same increase in the long term pay grade ceiling, then I say dissolve the union.

Many other employers with no unions moved quickly after Walmart's move 14 months ago and raised salaries to be humane and competitive. Don't forget how much Kroger saved when they abolished the markdown fund for Double Coupons several years ago without even a personal size of KY jelly to the employees on our bone job we got. Also, we have leverage to strike as you can get another job almost anywhere. Even a restaurant chain Houston's here is paying over $10 for a ditzy greeter at the hostess stand and a $300 sign-on bonus. And a strike would really give Kroger a bad image with customers after all the inroads they have made in store decor remodels and the Natural Food project.

I am hearing they will ask for minimum $9.00 an hour for the front end. I also told our union rep we need profit sharing-this company is making money hand over foot and we aren't seeing a dime. Also employees who work an 8 hour day to get a one-hour lunch (like at most companies-none of this 2 15 min breaks crap.)

Yes, good points you cited.

I just checked the Union website and now 6 days after this first meeting, no update posted and the contract expires on Saturday as you know. I presume the first meeting did not go well and they are ashamed to provide an update. If that report of $9.00 is in fact what happens--what a disgrace. The lowest skill job in America the Greeter at Walmart that stands and points to Customer Service for where the customer takes returns is earning $10.00 per hr with no union, and a highly skilled stressful front end Kroger employee is worth $1.00 less with a Union behind him or her. If UFCW 1996 can't get it done perhaps its time to look into the Teamsters or we go it alone.

i seen months ago at  store with the clicklisters how they paid the big bucks to peoples on that new program despite a labor contract in place but would not renegotiate the current deal until it expires. there better be a big pop right away and no phase in each yr of increase over the contract term!!!!!

I signed up for texts by sending ufcw1996 to 550-00.

On march 10th I received this message

We met with Kroger and exchanged proposals today. The contract is extended, all terms remain in place while bargaining.

**Next meetin is the 23rd.

I saw the notification postcard that said negotiations started March 10th and we are still working under the old contract. Then several days later another postcard that said "contracts were exchanged" and I guess they need to come to some sort of agreement. Anyone know what the Union has proposed?

I don't think the negotiations are going well for employees. They posted no update on the website the same old news from mid-February. How lame they start negotiations just 8 days before contract expires. The morons lost leverage by threatening a strike and having the union strikevote BEFORE the Easter Holiday which is big for Kroger profits and big exposure to shoppers. if new starting wage is anything below 10 bucks i say join Teamsters or dissolve the union.
