It is still bothering me, for some reason
Permalink

This just got to me and I can't seem to get it off my mind. Yesterday while at work the RGM came in. She was talking to another employee about the mistakes being made in the Deli. The person, the RGM was talking to, works in Bakery and Deli.  She said to the RGM that it's the new people making the mistakes. They haven't been trained right. I am the newest one there. First off you're one of the ones who trained me. So, if I'm not trained right, then you just put yourself down. Second, I do my job better than those who have been there longer. Although I still have some learning to do, like the gun and recognizing what is ours when the truck comes, I work my butt off and work a heck of a lot harder than those that have been there for years. Third, there's no way I can deny my mistakes, my initials and/or name is on everything I do. If I made any mistakes my name is on it. Management can come to me directly, I own my mistakes.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

It is up to the department manager to train and coach the team members.  If anything is wrong, the department manager gets to hear about it and it is normal to deflect the blame.  If the department manager has an issue with your work habits, they are supposed to coach you to get you up to speed.

I am constantly being hounded by my day grocery manager about key retailing and best practices.  I constantly remind my night crew how to do things correctly.  They constantly ignore me and forget how I showed them to do things.  Vicious cycle.  Of course, the day grocery crew doesn't do everything right and we are constantly fixing their ****ty work.  So, the day manager must be having the same difficulty training his crew too..  lol.  Been like this since I started 8 years ago.

In conclusion, the department manager is supposed to keep training and coaching you until you get it right.  They are not supposed to give up on you like I have for half my crew.  I sound like a broken record reminding them of the same things over and over and over.  I don't yell or degrade anyone, I just try to remain calm....and wish they would get it right.

It's still bothering you and on your mind, most likely because of the fact that they did you dirty. I mean they pretty much threw you under the bus and just expected you take what they said. I get the other poster saying that it's natural for the DH to deflect the blame and all of that. But in my opinion, that is definitely not something your manager should be doing to you.

Also, I'm curious if you had a chance to speak with that person that threw you under the bus after the RGM left? Because I totally think they need to hear a piece of your mind. Mind you, not chew them a new one. But for sure let them know that you didn't appreciate them stabbing you in the back. And that any lack of training that didn't happen is a problem that went on between them training you. And also the DH, that wasn't on top of you learning all of what you should have learned. Further more, you didn't appreciate being so utterly disrespected in front of the RGM. And if they have anything further to say about your training, they should speak to you directly about it. Or take it up with you AND the DH, so you can work on things further. But otherwise than that, keep you out of any perceived of mistakes in the future, if they haven't come to you about it in the first place.

The managers never come to me directly. They tell others and then it gets to me. Which is completely wrong. An issue they have with me they should tell me and keep others out of it. I've said it before I can't fix it unless I know what it is. I don't want to hear it from people who are not my boss and can't fix their own issues. I'm about ready to explode!

Trust me, I hear you. They live for that kind of thing as well at my store. Making things all the more passive-aggressive when you come in and find all these cute little notes about this or that not being done. Or randomly, someone is like "the DH, wanted all the people on closing to know, etc. etc." And I nearly bit one girl's head off one day about it. Cause, she was getting on me about prices out on the floor. And unless something has changed between the last time I was on and when I next come in. I know how to properly price **** on the floor. Do not need to be told by the DH's stooge pigeon, how to do my job. Cause frankly unless they want to ACTUALLY re-start my training and actually give me more than what they did the first go round. I think I'm good on hearing any additional crap about what I'm already doing.

I will add too though, I have learned though through the lovely tawdry grapevine, that seeing as how they don't always have the balls to fire you out right they tend to make folks,' they don't want in their dept. anymore, lives a living hell. By deliberately putting them on ****ty tasks or shifts. So not sure if that is what they might be doing to you also. By leaving things such a hot mess for you to clean up all the time or what. But definitely keep that in mind too. I know I do for sure.
