I work at the front end. My store didn't even give me a black vest. They ran out. All they had for me was the white shirts and black pants. I'm the only one there without a vest, and they say nothing about it to me. They even ran out of name tags. Mine was a used name tag that was turned the other way around, and they put a sticker on the back with my name on it. Other new hires don't even get a name tag... just a "Hello, My name is..." sticker... yeah... a sticker...
FEMs are allowed to wear other clothing besides the kroger uniform. we have a FEM who wears a hoodie and another one who wears a shawl quite regularly. we do have FEMs who wear the full kroger attire, but it's not an obligation.

Yeah, the CSM at my current store always wears the Kroger uniform (red vest white shirt) but i know the CSM at my old store sometimes will wear other clothing, i think the rules are more relaxed for the CSMs as long as their wearing dress attire.
it varies by district even inside a division. In my disrict the front end and backup wear professional attire because the district head is ok with it. Other districts they all wear Kroger blue and blend in. Some do white. It just depends. If store managers don't speak to them, then it's not your concern.
In my store our CSMs and backups tend to wear the normal cashier attire (and then the red vest). Although occassionally they might wear other dress shirts.
One of my coworkers (office helper) mentioned that he heard that (in our store at least) office helpers are also allowed to wear other dress shirts than just the white dress shirts. As long as the look is professional, generally other dress shirts etc. it's ok. Again this is just at my store and none of us working in the office have tested the waters, but it sounds like it is an option for us should we choose to do so.
