After three years, & no other incidents, I doubt they'd fire you. Maybe a write up at the most, if that. We had a girl misplace one. They finally found it a month or so later & she's still with us. Worst that happened here is that they are now extremely anal about signing them in & out. God help you if a manager sees one laying out unattended. Same with the printers.

I think you can locate the gun.   or find out the last time you were signed into it.

They can try but the union should be able to stop a termination.

There is a way to see who was the last person to log into a particular telzon.

A customer could have picked it up and started scanning stuff and then walked out of the store with it.  They end up on ebay.

We have two shiny new ones lost so far and no one was terminated for them missing.

I had one sitting in my shopping cart while I was running pallets of stock.  The head IT guy came in the store to shop, grabbed my telzon, and went shopping with it hanging on his belt.  No one said anything to him about it.  He gave it to my store manager before he left and I got warned to not let it happen again.  A Dairy manager had a telzon and printer sitting out while he was doing mark downs.  He got distracted and when he came back, they were missing.  Turned out that the same IT guy walked out of the store with them and brought them back later.

The file clerk should be able to tell who logged into the handheld last.
