I need some advice!

I need to some how let the people I work with know how I feel, but never get the chance to say it. I decided to write it in a letter. I need some advice on whether I should print the letter and give it to my department or not. If there are any changes I need to make please let me know. I'll take all the advice I can get. Please be honest. Here's the letter I wrote:

  Dear Team,

Deli is a very fast pace job and theres never really anytime for us to express our feelings with our team, like we need to. There is a lot of things that needs to get said. So, Im going to write it here.

I like my job. I like that it keeps me busy, serving the customers, the different people you meet, and that Im always learning something new. What I dont like is how the team is treating me. I honestly dont know what I do or did to get everyone here to hate me. I am continuously being told that Im hateful and need to learn how to talk to people. Not one person has yet to give me an example of how or why they feel this way.

90% of the time, if you ASK me to do something I will do my best to get it done, but when you demand it or tell me to do it (and youre not my boss) I wont do it. Especially, if it is something that you should have done yourself. I am also constantly hearing Im too old or I have worked here to long to be doing it. What I say to that is If you cant do it or dont want to do it, then you shouldnt be working here anymore. I have my job to do and you have yours to do. When you dont do yours, then I cant do mine.

I come into work and garbage hasnt been taken back all day, dishes arent done, slicers are dirty, fryers not filtered, and logs arent kept. Then I get told to do what you shouldve have been doing, this throws me behind on my work. When this happens I get angry, because now I have 3-4x the work to do. Why? Because you gossiped all day and deliberately left it for me to do.

For over 2 years the Lead position has been open. I have only worked here for 8 months. Not one person in the Deli wanted the Lead position. When I found out it was open I wanted it. Now, all of you want it. I honestly dont know if any of you were even offered the position. My assumption is you werent. Not one of you even know what a Lead does. You think a Lead is the boss and tells others what to do. Youre wrong.

A Lead takes on all the responsibility of the department. Another words, what your team doesnt do you are responsible for doing. The mistakes your team makes falls on you. It is up to the Lead to make sure mistakes are fixed and the job is done right. It is the Leads responsibility to make sure that everyone is doing their part. It is the Leads responsibility to resolve any issues that team members are having and to get everyone to work together as a team.

Another thing is when you are constantly being reminded that others hate you, it makes it difficult to work. It makes it hard to focus on the task at hand. We need to keep our personal feelings towards people away from work. I cant be nice to people who arent nice to me. I cant show respect to people who show me none. Im here to work. Im not here to make friends. Im not taking you home with me.

Don't say anything to the people you work with.

If they are actually telling you the words "You're too old for..." that is discrimination and harrassment, and needs to be reported to your department head.

Some DHs get butthurt if you go to store management before them, chain of command and all that.

So speak with your DH in the office directly, and what you say to them should be an abridged, to-the-point versaion of what you posted here.

If your Department Head IS one of the people who are calling you "too old" and saying "everybody hates you" then go directly to the store manager and civilly, calmly explain what is happening.

Well, you just told me one thing I need to change in the letter. They aren't telling me' I'm to old. They are saying it about themselves. That's there excuse for not getting the truck or lifting anything heavy or doing anything that is actual work. They leave it all for me to do.

Ah, okay I misunderstood.

Well, if they're saying things like "everybody hates you" it's still bullying and harrassment.

If you're the poster I think you are, I would honestly request for a transfer if I was you and this point.

Working with miserable people will make an otherwise pleasant job, intolerable.

And in the meantime, don't refuse to do something asked of you IF it needs to be done. That will backfire on you.

Sometimes, a senior co-worker of mine who I abhor with every fiber of my being, asks me to do something.

I just do it. Because it's not about them or me, or our beef. It's about the customers.

Transfer? You mean to another Kroger? How do I do that?

I work in the Deli and I feel you! I also work with several people who don't like me, leave me all the work, and make me so angry. I'm going to say to you what was said to me. Don't let the others affect your work. Smile! Don't let them even know it is bothering you. They are actually helping you out! I know! I know! It's not as easy as it sounds. I think this is the issue in all Deli's you get a bunch of women working together and it's like being in High-school again. Don't bother with the letter. It is only going to make you look bad. It may even stir up more problems.

I agree with Myopinion on forgetting about the letter. It's just going to make you look bad.

But I'm not wit her on just staying there and putting up with abuse.

There will always be SOMEONE who doesn't care for you, and you will always have those 2 or 3 co-workers you can't stand, but being antagonized by an entire department isn't normal nor healthy and eventually it will jeapordize your own job.

After being with Kroger for about 6 months you can request a transfer to a different store in the same district.

You have to go to the store manager first and let them know. Then you talk to management at a different store that you chose.

I was able to transfer after only 3 months with Kroger but that's because my main issue was transportation (the one I transferred to is less than 2 miles from home, original store was 15 miles away) BUT the toxic management was a huge catalyst.

Since in my situation, management was the problem, I obviously didn't tell them that, but since your problem is other coworkers and overt bullying I might bring that up.

I got a question for you. Have you ever met your deli/bakery coordinator? Depending on who yours is, they might be a big help to you. Let them know you want to move up in the company and have ambitions and actually care about your job. If you explain your situation to them in a civil manner they might be able to change a lot for you!

I have met the RGM of our Deli, but not sure if I have met the coordinator. Everyone I have met in management position or above, I have told that I'm interested in moving up. I think what I have to do now is just wait. Just do my job and let things happen. I have decided not to give the letter because MyOpinion is right. They probably wouldn't do anything about it anyway.
