one way to find out who's a decent person and who's not

have a family emergency, see which management actually cares and asks if you're ok, and see who doesn't say a word, and see who's more concerned about the job you didn't get done when you had to call off...

i can't say anything else without possibly giving away who i am. but i'm kind of worried about what'll happen if i have to take time off work.

I had a Aunt pass away and I had to leave work early.  I went to tell the store manager and he said why leave now she's already dead.

This made me gasp. This can't be true.

Hey Mouse, would you have "lol'd" if it was YOUR family and you found out they died while you were at work???

I had something similar happen to a coworker of mine (cashier)

They were told their grandmother died while they were at work, and naturally close their register and left to compose themseleves.

When the comanagers found out what was going on, they said "Well, right now we're worried about QueVision."

Only the store manager showed them sympathy and said he was sorry for their loss/ if they need anything.

We had a courtesy clerk call out the day before and then he got into a pretty bad wreck the next day. On the way to work. They guilted him to come in the same day as the wreck, limping and sore. Basically not really able to work.

Damn that is beyond horrible. I swear these days some folks are just so out of touch. But yet, would have expected you to pass the tissues at THEIR loss. I'm sorry you experienced that.

I've got a very touch and go situation going on right now and I might have to leave work or call off at any time. and it's really at a terrible time company wise since we have store walks and holidays. Not that there's ever a good time for these things. But i know i have to put my family first. if any management thinks of making a comment like that to me, i will snap.

Would not blame you in the least either.

No matter what ANYONE says, Family always comes first before ANY job! You know darn well that if the shoe was on the other foot, the managers would be taking care of their own families...Why should it be any different for the employees?

I believe it. I'm a supervisor and we had a guy tell us he wouldn't make it the next day because he had a funeral to go to. One of the co's (ironically the one who's in charge of all employees and is supposed to be there for them) asked me to try to find coverage, but first they said "Well, why what time is the funeral? It's not going to last all day, call him and see if he can come in after the funeral"

I pretended to look for his phone number and couldn't find it in the directly, "oopsies", she let it go. lmao. I was baffled though.
