Been here for a year!

I started working for Kroger (in the Deli) a year ago. My first day here I was given a short description of where things were and how things were done. My second day here I was shown how to do simple sandwiches. My third day here I closed the Deli (By myself) untrained. Also on my third day I had to take care of Bakery customers (untrained) because no one was there to cover Bakery. Everyone was so glad I started working here because I actually worked. They all gave high reviews.

I have never been properly trained how to run the Deli or Bakery. I am still training myself. I have worked my butt off since the first day. I show up for work on time. I have missed 2 days in the last year of working here. No other person (in this Deli) can say the same thing. I have worked that Deli and waited on the Bakery customers (by myself) several times.

The minute I was told (March of 2017) I was to get the Lead position, in the Deli, the others started hating me. I have dealt with sabotages, back stabbing, childish behavior, and laziness from the others since that day.  I have yet to get Lead position. Im not expecting or waiting on it anymore. If I was going to be the Lead I would have been already.

I was appointed the Deli lead Assistant position and others have said to my face I dont have to listen to you. They have even told the new people to not listen to me and have tried getting them to hate me, before they meet me. The others are always too busy to take care of the customers, but not too busy to interrupt me while Im taking care of the customers. They are on their phones the entire time they are on the clock. If theyre not on their phones, theyre not in their department or off in the corner talking. Management literally stands there having a conversation with them while they are talking on their phones and does nothing. I then get told about over time. I wouldnt have to work over time if the others would get off their phones and out of their corners, and actually do some work. Until they can make the others work, theyll be paying me overtime. Because I will not leave with my job undone.

I seriously dont know how much more of this I can take. Someone needs to step up and say something to the Deli staff and Lead/Food Safety Manager. This needs to stop. It wont stop until the person in charge makes it stop. If that person cant make it stop and make their team work, then that person shouldnt be in charge.

I feel for you!!!!  I wish that Kroger would start standing behind their "rule" which states (forget the exact wording) that NO cellphones or pagers are to be used by employees while on the clock.   Few take that seriously anymore.  It has gotten TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL...............

SO, If that rule is ignored, which should we pay any attention to stuff like their (evil) policy of not allowing us to drink any beverages (water , soda or anything else) in the deli???

I don't get it.

Every minute of texting or talking on a personal phone (that is Definitely Not Business-related, or a real Emergency!), is THEFT from Kroger, we are stealing time (thus, money) from the company. We are paid to work on the clock, not talk on smartphones.

Ultimately, this hurts all of us...........someone has to take up the slack when cellphoneaholics play on company time.

If your job title is "ASSISTANT DELI LEADER" YOU are the person in charge! You are deli clerks' nearest supervisor, both you and the Deli Leader. Co-managers are the next step of supervisory but YOU are the nearest and it is your department and you have to learn how to tell people what to do, or talk to management about it. I do feel your pain though, because Deli does tend to get the laziest and dumbest hires, so it is hard to get productivity out of most of them. But if they aren't being productive, talk to management, take their advice, then report back the results. If things don't improve, management will get them off your schedule and into another department, most likely Front End.

Worst case scenario, talk to your Deli coordinator about it. But only do that after talking to management about the issues with employees in your department. The coordinator should be last resort, because then things will start getting done and it will piss off your co managers when they find out you went above them. But sometimes you have to. As long as YOU are doing your job, don't worry about any sort of revenge or anything management will pull. They will sometimes try it though, don't ever trust them.

You might want to make Management aware of its, then might want to have "small conversations" to reminds the clerks of your position. While they can hate the person, the position can still make them perform their duties. As long as your not holding people to different expectations, they don't have a leg to stand on. After you established your in charge and they need to follow your directions, give them another "conversation" if they still don't follow, make sure your writing down when you talked to them and let them know your recording the conversation.
