Am I really too old to think about college?

One of my regular customers was chatting me up about what if I go to school or not. I told him I'm 30 and that I want to go to school to get a degree in computer science. He said I'm too old for that.

Well that customer is very closed minded. I started college at 18 and looking back at it wasn't ready (College for me took a few more years, because I wan't in the "college mindset"). Going to College is all about what you want to achieve !!! I would suggest enrolling and taking one class or 2 in the beginning, you either will like it or not! But if anything you will only regret not trying it.

My only suggestion if you do start the college path, do not do online classes unless completely necessary. I needed the "Classroom environment" to actually commit and retain the information, online classes I just did the basics to complete the course.

I have a degree and want to go back to get another degree!! Computer Science or Data Analytics seem to be BIG right now. Think how much we use computer to live our lives.

Call your local College/University and ask to visit and talk to an admissions councilor!

("Kroger Lifers/Most Store Management will all tell you ......get the degree and have option")

I don't think any one's too old for college. Just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into though in regards to the commitment it takes to complete a degree and in regards to paying it back. Cause I know I went the old school approach of going from high school right into college and I completed 2 degrees. But however having a parent with major health issues going on. It made it hella tricky to find work with my mom going in and out of the hospital. And has led me to deferring like crazy. Unfortunately and yet gratefully I was hired on to Kroger after she passed a couple of years ago. And although I'm not making a heck of a lot. I'm at least going to try and see if I can get some re-payment plans started in the next few months or so.

But yea, I agree with EUID, in regards to taking a few classes here or there and see if you like it. And if you do, go from there with a few classes at a time. Have one girl I work with doing that now. And she's been able to pay for the entirety of her own college education that way. May take a bit longer but I do find that truly impressive. Wish I had done so myself. Would save on all the thousands upon thousands I owe in the long run now.

But yea, long story short. Don't listen to that customer, but listen to what is right for you!

You're never too old. I've heard of 50 and 60 year olds going to college and graduating. If it's something you wanna do then go for it. You've gotta start somewhere.

I would say do it sooner then later, if you jump at it now...you might be able to sneak into starting in January.

Anytime someone says, "You're too..." the best thing to do is to turn it back on them and ask, "Why would you say that?"

You're never too old. That customer is simple minded and stupid for saying that. I plan on finishing the education that I started, and I sure as hell don't want to be stuck at Kroger forever. Kudos to you for wanting to do more with your life. There are people out there running countries and saving lives for a living, compared to that, all the drama Kroger has is so stupid. At 30 you are young still, but wiser, and this could make for s great student. You got the best of both worlds. Go to school if you want. Don't let some idiot dash your dreams.
