Frozen definitely. If you take Grocery you will be responsible for the entire store image with in stock. Everything from the back room to the shelves being full or not will come down on you. Very difficult.

That's true but Grocery Head pays a lot better, and it's a much higher position.

Where I am at, the Frozen manager, Dairy manager, Night manager and Day Grocery manager make the same.  The last contract made frozen equal in pay.

Yes, the Grocery and Night manager have the most responsibility.  The Day Grocery manager depends on the other department managers to make their departments run smoothly.

Grocery Manager gets paid the most. I get paid second most (Night Manager), Frozen/Dairy/Nutrition make $1.50 less/hr than me but they're all equal in pay. I actually do the bulk of ordering and planning for dry grocery, ensuring backroom looks reasonable as possible, etc. Grocery Manager handles a lot of endcaps and displays plus running backstock and doing lows and holes during the day. I also actively participate in frozen, dairy, and nutrition orders.

At our store, Front End Manager makes the most, then my boss, not sure about everyone else. I also know our Receiving Clerk makes the same as Frozen/Dairy/Nutrition.

I never understood why every division has to be different.  I understand some aspects (cost of living, competition, etc) but it seems like some things should be the same across the board:  dairy, frozen, nutrition, grocery, etc. should all have dept head pay because they all require additional effort and skill.  I know what you're thinking "grocery heads do more than dairy, frozen, etc"  and that may be true, but explain to me why dairy has a lead pay, but frozen and nutrition don't (at least at my store). All those depts. require the person to do orders, plan for sales, build displays, do markdowns.  Kroger thinking is illogical sometimes.

In my division, frozen and dairy both get department head pay, but nutrition leads get screwed over and only get the extra premium. I don't understand either why in some places, frozen and dairy are just considered leads.

Stores are different in how they operate. At our store, Nutrition gets like 10 hours a week so all the guy does is stock and do markdowns. Half the time me or my boss do markdowns and we usually stock nutrition items ourselves. As Night Manager/Grocery Backup, I personally look over frozen and dairy orders each go around, and am fairly active in doing frozen orders myself. Having been a Frozen Lead in the past, I can tell you my current job is 10x the total work. Less physical labor but more overall work. Also, regardless of what those guys do, my boss and I are still ultimately responsible for the entire Department, and that includes Dairy/Frozen/Nutrition/Bread, not just dry grocery.
