Intercepting a page that isn't for your department...

By chance does anybody know if you can get into any kind of trouble for intercepting a page for another department? I ask because for the first time ever and as many peeps were wondering when they would call a blue line. I paged our night managers(as I nor anybody knew who was on at that point of the evening(around 8 p.m.) and nobody answered for a while when I did it from the bakery phone. So I head over to deli and page from there(mind you one of the Produce peeps was like, "that was you? You sounded muffled. So I figured it was the line or I wasn't speaking loudly enough and I know they often page and respond back to deli calls more so than bakery at times).

Long story short, I thought I heard someone page for the deli and so I dialed in the number. But it turned out it was FE calling for the Dairy. I played it off, though and still asked the person if they had seen any of the managers up front(albeit getting a rather snooty, "no, and I was calling the dairy not the deli" type of response). As I know for a while there had been quite a few pages for management to get various phone calls and like nobody had been answering. I hung up at which point one of the managers finally show up. And is like "hey, (insert my name here), I meant to show you how to use the intercom system, etc. etc." And then gave me the keys to unlock the compacter(which also as another aside, I think the only reason why a manager came so quickly was because I did say I was paging about a blue line. And I don't know if that is just something only managers can call or what. But, for whatever reason they get real testy at my store when someone says it over the intercom but them(save for one visiting manager guy in training often had one of my co-workers call one. And he didn't mind). I didn't even have an attitude, I just asked if the night shift manager could call deli about a blue line).

But yea, I was just wondering if I could get into trouble for intercepting one of the cashier's calls to another department or not? I would hope not as it's kind of hard to hear most pages anyway in our store with so much background noise going on at times. But all the same, I really don't need this to turn into some kind of new infraction they have against me(I'm already the OT Queen more or less(which I'm actually working to get better at. Got out on time the last 2 nights. Mind you the struggle has been VERY real in regards to getting the managers to do a blue line on time, so I can stay on top of getting out on time).

You wouldn't get in trouble for that. Simple mistake it happens. The cashier had an attitude because, 1, they are a Kroger cashier, 2 probably have an annoying customer and they are having yo wait forever for dairy to page them back so they can resolve the issue and get rid of the customer.

Don't know why you insist on getting overtime if your managers are telling you not to. If something doesn't get done and it's some for you to go clock our, then leave it. If anyone gives you crap for it tell them management told you to leave on time and if they don't like it they should get you more help. Tell them the store managers are higher than your department manager, and if they tell you to leave then you are going to listen.

That's the thing. I truly DON'T insist on getting over time. It's just there are some nights that are far busier than others at my store. Where you can be ahead of the curve one minute and then behind it the next. And I don't know what it is, but I seem to get stuck with some of the most flakiest of people that are meant to "help" me out at times(save for yesterday, we worked beautifully as a team and got out that night too). But prior to that, I have my "help" learning how to make a bale or grabbing only 1 blue trash can when I have like 3 more + a blue cart to take back to the trash. Or be on their phones when they can take a hot second to print out the labels that are needed for the packaged stuff. And do to stuff like that, it eats into the time I have for doing my closing stuff. Which annoys me to no end as I'm the sole closer(we no longer have a second person or even 3 people closing, and it's a lot to do by yourself, so everyone second counts).

I honestly wish I could just leave something unfinished. For the day people to worry about. But I'd never hear the end of it. As they live for a scape goat in my department. And although the upper management says they don't have favorites they totally do. And nobody every says anything to the people that keep the snippiness going throughout the bakery at times(and why I've been told countless times from other departments, that I'm about the only person that they like out of the bakery, cause I'm one of the nicer ones over there). So it's a wasted effort at times even talking to management about it in the first place. I'd rather suck up more of my B 12 vitamins(which have been helping me get an additional energy boost of late), push through to get it all done, and get out. Otherwise, they carry bones over from one day to the next and it just messes up the whole work energy of the place.

A call for all departments to take their trash and card board back to the baler and compactor. I have no clue why they call it that though, unless it's in reference to our blue trash carts.

And yea, I dialed the cashier back thinking she had paged deli. But instead it was for dairy. First time I had intercepted a call to another department, and didn't know if they had a policy about that sort of thing or not. As I did ask her real quick if she had saw any of the managers. And I guess that could have used a few mins in which dairy could have been trying to page her back.

No way you'd get in trouble for that. Try being in a store where several people in other departments have the same first name as you. Makes it fun figuring out who they're paging.

Good. As it always seems they are coming up with some new policies for this or that at times.

And actually in regards to the name thing, I am in a store like that. Heck even being in a department where there are 2 people with the same name. I'm just one of the lucky ones with a different enough name that it would realllllllllly have to be a reach for another person with my name to show up, haha.

We've got 2 Gary's, Barry, Harry, Terry, Dairy (of course), and a couple who could be called "fairy" so it's difficult sometimes

Let's see, 2 Brittanys, 2 Lauras, did have 2 Vickis(but one left and the original is lead in the liquor store), both back up managers have the same name save for one letter difference, 2 Emilys(but one left), 2 Taylors(one left), 2 Tracys, and these are mostly folks in the deli. Save for both Taylors and Emilys as both were in bakery. And thankfully the new peeps that were just hired on either have unique enough names or thus far the only one with that name that it isn't super confusing.

Oh yeah, we've got a couple Simons, Angelas, Jasons, several Mikes, etc. It gets very confusing!
