The position I've been working so hard for.

Got told, yesterday, that someone, from the stores that are closing, is going to get the position I've been working so hard for. I've been working my butt off, 9 months, for this position. I've been stressing myself out, being hated by everyone in my department, and working twice as hard as everyone else. As soon as I was told this, it felt like a big weight was lifted off my shoulders. It feels like I can finally stop trying so hard. Like I ca just do my job. I didn't think that I would feel this relaxed and comfortable about someone else coming in and taking the position, but it feels good. I still want the position, but now I can slow down and stop worrying.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get the position. But sounds like it's one thing that you don't have to stress about as much now.

What position were you working to get?

That is the same feeling I used to get.  I would be left in charge while the department manager was on vacation with the back up.  It was nice being in charge and getting top pay but it was also a relief when they got back.  Now that I am the department manager, sometimes I would like to be just a regular employee not needing to stress about the things I do now.

If your goal is to move up in Kroger, move at a steady pace towards the goal.

I think the bakery back up is feeling that way at my store. I mean if we can't hire on more peeps for the bakery by August(when the "golden" child college student graduates, will be leaving if she can't get an accounting spot at our store. As she no longer wants to work in the bakery after she graduates), I've heard it said that she told some peeps that she was thinking of stepping down as back up and being just the back up cake decorator and floor setter person.

Which in a way solves one problem. But still not the others as we still need more closers and who knows who they would find to be our newest back up manager for bakery again. It didn't work out for very long with the previous one we had. So who knows how long a new one would either.

But yea, even if the money is worth it. It does make you wonder at times if it is really worth it to climb the Kroger ladder or not.

Department manager! I have been promised the position since January 2017, but there was continuous delays in my training. I kept getting told I needed to work on this or that, then told I was doing everything right, now looking for someone to fill m position in order to move me up. let's just say one excuse after another. I'm still willing to take the position if offered it again, but now I can take my time and learn everything I need to know at a slower pace.

That is some BS actually, in my division they have promoted people without training just to have someone with the title.  The company a few years ago forgot about looking into the future and just wanted to do things as "normal".  Kroger was know as a place there you were able to moved up and "get a job and stay for a career".  Now it feels like you can work your ass off, do everything your told to do, work 110% and then one day they will tell you your canned.  When I first got hired, there was loyalty to one another and it showed in people taking ownership and pride in their stores.  Now most associates, just do whatever is on their checklist and hit the clock.  When the company tells you one year your AWESOME, hitting your ## and up to expectations and then the next year your HORRIBLE and not making any metrics....when everything is the same... ? ? ?  I remember when the standard was to case stock, then they didn't like the look of tray boxes on the shelf, then it was more "effective" to have case ready packaging.  Just like produce, it was hand stacking, then it was just put the box on the display and pick out any bad items, to hand stocking everything.  I wonder when they will eliminate the produce prepacked cups/cut fruit because customer like it "fresher"..... It seems like everything goes in a circle with KROGER
