Wage rate increase in CERTAIN markets, hmmm
Permalink

Part of Restock Kroger is wage rate increase in some markets. Why not all markets? All associates in all states are expected to do the same kind of job in their departments, some of them will be paid more but not everybody in all states? I wonder why can't everybody get a raise, it's not really fair.

Its up to each branch of the union to fight for it. Different states are paying different wages.

My store is one of the few non union stores. We just got raises we were told we were the lowest pay rate store. We still are not union but was changed to union pay scale so now we will get raises like we should.

If I may ask, is the hiring wage in your store $10 now like Kroger says the hiring wage will be? My store is union and new hires get the very state minimum, $7.85.

Probably because in some markets, state/city laws already have substantially increased minimum wage standards. Also, due to the majority of locations being unionized, they can't just roll out a blanket raise like non-union companies can. Each unionized region needs to come back to the bargaining table with new agreements when their old contract is up.

Thanks. That's what I thought, our contact expires in 2020, I was just hoping I won't have to wait that long to see an increase. I've been with Kroger for so long and I'm not even at $10 yet, it's depressing. I'm THIS close to looking for something better, but I adore my co-workers and I'd hate to leave. I work mostly for insurance, but it would be nice to get a raise after 4.5 years of killing myself for Kroger :(

Our contract allows them to pay more than the union rate if they want, just not less. Here in California, Los Angeles minimum wage is higher than the rest of the state so they have their own rates in the contract. About a year ago all stores within a certain region were increased to LA payscale ($12 instead of $10 minimum, going up to $13.45 in July) to increase retention even though they didnt legally have to. It's actually kinda working so maybe this is a taste of what's to come elsewhere? Also it wouldn't surprise me if this market and any others like it didn't see any further increases so maybe that's why they imply an exception?

Thanks! That gives me some hope :)
