Best time to take your vacation?

First time taking a vacation as my one year is up. Apparently I get one week.

What, in your opinion, would you consider to be the best time of the year to take your vacation?

It all depends on you, but normally late spring or summer you can't do wrong.

Two times to avoid: spring and summer, when all your long timers with the most seniority like to take theirs, and ANY time around a major holiday when the stores are blasted out.

Do you have any plans to go somewhere?  You might want to hold off putting in your vacation request until you know for sure whether or not you might be going somewhere later in the year.  Some people like to take their first vacation as soon as they're able to.  Others like to wait until later in the year so they don't have to wait as long for their next vacation the following year.

I've been there almost 4 years so I get two weeks. I'm taking my first one the first week of June because it's the week of my birthday and I've made plans. My second week is the end of August because I'm going on a family vacation. I typically take mine during the summer and I've never had any issues.

I take a week in April, July and September.
The weather is pretty good and we can spend a lot of time outdoors.

I just barely got mine in this year. Put in for earlier in July and that must have blew their minds or something. Cause when they finally posted the vacay schedule at my store I was scratched out of my original requested week and a second one they thought might work. Had to go to my DH about it and he added me in for one at the end of July. I mean I know they bumped some folks up and some other peeps were removed after they quit. But to totally forget somebody in your dept. that had their request in before many of the new hires. That's a trip.

As for the original poster's question. I have to admit that even though I'm taking my vacation this year in the summer. I kind of liked having my last one in the Fall. Sure not many theme parks and so forth is open around then. But to me it kind of geared me up for not only the big holidays. But my bday in November and it was kind of nice. Not to mention, I was for sure guaranteed more hours during the summer time period cause more of the full timers were off on their vacations and with me having been part-time and mainly in the bakery at that point. It was always a all hands on deck sort of situation in regards to peeps helping out a lot more. Because graduation season was upon us and our decorator was on vacay too. So got to take some part in icing some cupcakes or whatever was needed.

A great week to take a vacation is the week after thanksgiving.  Stores are usually really slow plus what I do is work the 5 days leading up to and including Thanksgiving (always on a Thursday) then take Friday and Saturday as my 2 days off. Then Start your vacation.    This year however I have changed mine.  I am actually on Vacation this week.  Gonna take my 2nd week the week of Labor day.

My Department Manager always takes the week after Thanksgiving and then I'll take the week after that. But he's a lifer and has over a months of vacations whereas I only have one week.
