Union Needs Revamping!

Kroger Union is trash.  Negotiating a measly .25 cent raise ain't nothing, nor is 1 dollar good for leads.  Leads should be getting paid atleast 3 to 5 dollars more due to the stress, department upkeep we have to do.  At my store, leads don't last more than a year and a half.  Frozen, even less.  Nutrition?  I don't know.  Either make them their own departments, or pay people their worth.  Including overnight crews.

Agreed. I was a Lead for a year and a half just as you say before I just couldn't take it anymore. There's no way a department lead should be making less than $11-$12 in some stores and over $15 in

others. Everyone deserves a fair and livable wage, especially considering all that we have to deal with. I mean, if I'm good enough for you to beg me to take a Lead position I turned down twice in the first

place, that tells me I'm a lot more valuable to you than you're hoping I realize. And the Union isn't good for anything but a threatening tool if you're one of the ones willing to even go through the trouble to get them involved in something.

I agree but we vote on the contract and we always vote yes so it our fault also. If the union would go further to negotiation of wages we might go on strike because Kroger wont budge on wages either. On the other hand Kroger dont want th bad rap or to have to close their stores because we go on strike. In my experience the union has been good to me and the people at my stor because our current management staff thinks they can do what ever they want.

My Store manager is more understanding than most.  Our former manager I wish not to say was a psychopathic, overordering maniac.  When he'd come to leads, most would run away or not approach him.  I just couldn't deal with the pressure of my lead position.  It's gonna' knock my pay down less than a dollar, but to be honest it's worth it.  I rather have my health and sanity.  Although I will miss the overtime lol.

"more stress"  They do less physical work than the majority of the others in their dept.  Spend hours + days to make a schedule, which the backup wastes time on as well.  Spend time in meetings.  I say if you don't like your job, step down. You'll be wishing you had all that extra work (and extra pay)

Maybe in some stores that happens but not in mine. I take about 15 minutes to make my schedule. I usually do my paperwork off the clock on Saturdays because i don't have time for that crap through the week. I go to the dept head meeting once a week but that takes maybe 45 minutes and that's ok since i usually don't take both my breaks on other days. I definitely pull more than my fair share of the weight in my department. Again maybe some department heads are like this, especially in marketplace stores but not here. Even one of my comanagers told me that, that in my store we do more work as dept heads than in a lot of stores.

I saw this coming two contracts ago.  Union screwed us on the last contract.  And the company wonders why they can't get any employees that last more than six months two years at best.  People are realizing you can't survive on minimum wage for 7+ years trying to survive in an economy that needs a minimum of at least $15/hr.  It use to be great working at night for the premiums but they're horrid now.  It's a couple cents instead of a couple dollars.  Hardly worthy it.  Don't even get me started on new hires not having holiday pay and time and a third pay on Sun.
