I will like some feedback on what is the rule of working one night a week, we have three full time people that never work a night and 4 part timers never work an evening as me and another full time workers works on night a week. I was not able to find any thing that shows this rule. Part timers in my dept they keep them at 32 hrs and always have 8 a.m -2 shift also I have one part timers alwasy stuck with 6 days a week with 5 hrs a day with one day off only vise all other part timers in same department and througt the store have 32 hrs with two days off.
well that's kinda hard to answer because lots of people work lots of different shifts. Some people get away with not working any nights whereas some will only have one and still others work 6 days a week don't even get 40 hours and work mostly nights. As far as the one night a week goes, mostly department heads and back ups follow that rule. They really need to work more so they can keep an eye on the evening crew. Now I've been there almost 6 years and I usually just get one but there's one person who has seniority on me who rarely gets a night and 2 below me who don't get evenings on the weekend whereas my night is always saturday. They don't like u to have a personal life
Could not tell you if thee is any set policy on the schedules as to hours worked. I am in Local 540 , in Dallas area, And our contract does not state anything about working specific hours. Now company policy, in Dallas area of SWKMA, states that you can not have any restrictions on your availability to be or remain Full time. It does allow you to bump or exchange your schedule with another one of lesser seniority if you do not like the one you have but have to bump the whole schedule and not just a day here and a day there. Now also Key Retailing does require each department head to close One night a week, so I do close once a week . My assistant also closes once a week or works mid-shifts.

If the one that has to work 6 days at 30 hours has more seniority over the ones that gets 32 hours over 5 days, then he/she can claim their schedule for the week by bumping them.

wow man our contracts are worlds different! I wish we could bump the whole schedule. We can only bump if someone else with less seniority has a longer shift (they work 8 when I only work a 6 hour shift). Also, we have several people who only work 30 or so hours a week and work 6 days with only 1 off. Been there done that and it's no fun! No overtime for that in the midsouth! Not sure if it's our store or our division or just the company itself, but basically if you call them out on something like claiming hours for instance they will punish you in one way or another, usually by cutting your hours or something. Of course the union does nothing to help
where i'm at, Ga, used to be, part timers were guarenteed at least 12 hours a week, full timers, 32. now, i don't think there is any kind of deal like that. they give hours too who they want, and how much they want. senority doesn't even factor anynore

Article 9 Work Schedules A. In constructing the weekly work schedules, the Employer will first determine the needs of the department based upon the needs of the business. Once that determination is made the following procedures will be utilized. B. The Employer will construct weekly work schedules by department, classification, and the ability to perform the work for full-time, such that the basic weekly full-time 8 schedule shall be eight (8) hours daily and forty (40) hours weekly, scheduled in five (5) days, not necessarily consecutive, Sunday through Saturday inclusive. When scheduling part-time employees, hours will be distributed by assigned department and the ability to perform the work such that the hours of senior parttime employees weekly scheduled hours shall be in line of seniority. The workweek will also be Sunday through Saturday inclusive. Part-time employees shall be scheduled for no less than twelve (12) hours per week in accordance with their department, seniority and classification, and ability to perform the work. A part-time employee may waive the right to minimum hours, in writing subject to Employers approval. Full-time and part-time seniority will be recognized when constructing weekly work schedules. C. Within the efficient operation of the business and with the recognition that weekend schedules and second shift schedules (after 9:00 p.m.) will be rotated among employees in each department and classification, the Employer will recognize the seniority of employees within each department and classification, in cases of conflict, for preferred shifts and preferred days off. D. The Employer reserves the right to schedule full-time employees four (4) ten (10) hour days or part-time employees ten (10) hour days, these schedules will be offered to employees in line of seniority by department and classification. There shall be no time and one-half pay for hours worked between eight (8) hours and ten (10) hours each day when scheduled in advance. These ten (10) hour days must be scheduled in advance and this language shall not apply to any hours that result from an employee being held over past their scheduled time. E. All employees who are instructed to report for work shall be guaranteed at least four (4) hours pay (three (3) hours if voluntary). F. An employees scheduling limitation may affect the Companys ability to maximize the employees schedule. G. Any employee shall perform whatever work the Employer may assign, with the understanding that when an employee is assigned to a job paying a lesser rate, the employee will be entitled to their regular rate of pay unless the employee has been permanently transferred to a lower rated job. Any employee assigned to a higher rated job will be entitled to the next higher rate in that classification. Any employee who replaces a Department Head for a period of one (1) week or more will be entitled to that Department Head's current rate of pay, or the next higher rate, whichever is greater. 9 Additional Hours: A. When the need arises to have employees work hours not on the posted schedule, such hours will be offered on the basis of seniority within assigned department, first to full-time employees who have been scheduled less than forty (40) hours and are available to work and then to part-time employees who are scheduled less than twenty-eight (28) hours and are available to work. If the additional hours are less than the call-in guarantee, they will be offered to employees at work who are available. If hours are equal or greater than the call-in guarantee, they will be offered to off duty employees. The Employer retains the right to offer part-time employees on a voluntary basis, hours during the weekend that are not subject to the provisions of 9.E. B. The Employer will post work schedules by 12:00 p.m. Friday prior to the workweek scheduled. The work schedule will be constructed by department and job classification. If the schedule of employees is not in conformance to employee department, seniority, job classification, and ability to perform the work within the store in which they work, employees shall have until 12:00 p.m. Saturday to bring to the Store Managers attention the error in scheduling, and such schedule shall be adjusted prior to the start of the workweek. In the event an employee fails to report the scheduling error as outlined above, the schedule will be deemed acceptable and not subject to the grievance procedure.
As someone who has worked as a "real professional" in a job that is important and changes the lifes of people everyday....puttin' Fruity Pebbles on a shelf ain't one of them. Its a BS job.I left it long ago due to this type of $hit but came back onboard when I started my lawn business for the insurance. Only signed on a few days a week. Now these **** smokers try putting me on the schedule 5 nights aweek for 4-5 hours a night. I've reached my limit, sometimes you just have to walk away. Now don't think its like that at all Krogers, I transfered from Delta to Zone 2. And I'll tell you now the "brothers and sisters" there didn't pull this much **** as these cheap a$s hillbillies in TN. That should itself be a real embarrassment to them here. I think I'll call in sick everyweek till these *******s fire me.
In my book and many others, if you come in dressed their way 5 days aweek, then your a FullTimer. That 6 day bullsh#t Kroger pulls by giving someone 5-6 days which I consider fulltime day with pt hours is just immoral.
Kroger has been trying to re-define the title PT for a while now. They truly suck. PT to me is part of the week like 3-4 days or evenings because you may have another job somewhere else or have your own little business, NOT 4-5 hours every frickin night. THe cheap ass bastards need to hire FT if they want someone in there 5 days a week.
such wisdom in this thread. you've got to use the contract to your advantage. tell them you don't want to work sundays, you dont have to, they shall be scheduled based on volunteers first then reverse seniority. that gets you out of working sundays if you dont want to. Just make sure you know the scheduling rules before you complain. if you've got a 5 hour shift and someone below you has an 8 hour shift, check out your contract and see what happens if you were to take the hours. A lot also has to do with what dept you are in. If you're getting screwed in one department maybe it'd be worth looking into what kind of schedule you could get in another.
