The store I work in has a Starbucks. They recently hired a young lady there who apparently likes to talk about other employee's she doesn't even know. I work on the front end as a supervisor and my daughter works in the pharmacy. I have been there for five years and my daughter has worked there for four years. This young lady has accused my daughter of being racist, another front end employee and myself as being drug users and she tries to intimidate people into "going along" with her. What I mean by that is...if she is talking bad about someone she fully expects you and everyone else to agree and go along with her or guess what? You will be the next one she is going to spread rumors about. No, she hasn't come right out and said that but that is exactly how she operates. The other employee who works on the front end is married to a man who has a child with another woman. She told his ex-girlfriend, while on the clock, that they were using drugs in front of her child and now he is in jeopardy of losing any rights to see his own daughter. She also has threatened to beat people up and even asked another front end employee if she would get fired if she beat someone up from work "off the clock"! The management has received numerous written, signed and dated statements from people who she tells these things to and from the people she has talked about. They say HR has their hands tied. Are we supposed to wait for this psychotic girl to attack one of us before she gets fired or what? I'm beside myself in this situation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rumors don't get people fired. Shake it off. Worry about yourself only while you are work. If ms. busybody wants to trash talk you let her. If other people want to join in let them. If you want it to stop ignore it.
LOL Of course ignoring her has been tried (big fail) and it's not so much the rumors (for me anyway...not the other employee who's husband can't see his daughter now because of her) as the threats of bodily harm to me AND the people I supervise. So just worrying about myself isn't really an option

Well Dave's Blog last week or the week before was ALL about harrassment. If you talking to your store mnagement does not stop it. Use the 800 number in the break room to report it. It says they HAVE to give you an explanation of their findings. I"m not sure what the number is off the top of my head, but check out dave's blog or that number and go from there. Do not let management be the only one working on a problem or it will just be ignored.
I don't know how to get to dave's blog from home. However when you sign on to citrix and then internet explorer, it's on the left hand list there on the main page of IE.
I'll look around to see if I can get anything other than express hr from home. But I don't know of a way. I'm on vacation this week, so I won't be in to work to be able to look.
To the anon person who decided to try to be stupid, Did you know that you can read a blog and sign on to citrix when your off the clock? It's weird, it's almost like if your at the store and not clocked in you can still check your emails for the day and still read the blog and find out about new things coming down the line like the new online employee newsletter?
So next time, use some thought before you take the time to post.
