Over the past several years, I've noticed a big change in management. I don't necessarily mean the unit and co-managers, but their bosses. They don't listen like they use to. Now, the only ones they seem to listen to are dept. heads & the in-store mgmt. It's a shame, really. If you're not one of the big wheels, you're not worth the effort. Experience use to mean something as well. More and more, this company is nothing more than a pyramid club.

Like this. With the head person spreading down his orders to his subordinates. He's makin the big bucks, while those below, making less. And I guarantee ya, the guy at the top just doesn't have a clue as to what's going on in these stores. He's the boss, and no one had better get in his way.

Unfortunately, it's like that with all businesses anymore.

It's to the point that I really don't care anymore. They don't care. Why should I?

And again, with the picture above. There use to be (and probably still is) a company called Amway. THAT is where the phrase pyramid club started. Don't hear much about them anymore.

Might be that way with us at some point.

Good post. What your describe is eerily accurate, and precisely what's happening with my company. As an Assistant, I'm feeling more and more pressure, every year, to discipline and fire as many hourlies as I can, as well as seek advancement up the ladder for myself. I really don't wanna do either.....But the pressure is there, and mounting.

It's the same in any company, and dthe larger it is the worse it becomes.  Here's something I've noticed and it must be one of the basic tenets of upwardly mobile management wanna-be's....Those that can't do, teach; Those that can't teach, manage!

Sometime ago, one of the "big wheels" was doing a store walk in our store. She mentioned to a dept head about having a picture taken. He mentioned, "Well make sure you get a clear shot of this (pointing to his union pin). She said, "Oh..Is that intimadation?" "No" , he replied. "It's about respect."

It seems like it's ALWAYS an US vs. THEM thing.

For Gods' sake. I know we're the employees and they're the employers, but GEEZ! If they'd just listen to us about what is truly happening in these stores and quit being so freakin snobish and egotistical, we'd get something accomplished.

GAWD! Retirement is close, but still seems so very far away no

I'm no friend of the food worker's union, but I respect their mission. The best thing any manager can do is to LISTEN to their employees, if for no other reason than it will come back to bite them on their susu~
