hourly associate gets to go home after 40 hours or so, co manager is salaried and works whenever kroger damn well pleases them to and gets paid the same no matter what.
but idk maybe co managers are eligible for bonuses?

I've been working for Kroger for 3 years now and am a Frozen Dept Head. I started out as a cleaner, then clerk, then assistant dept. head, then dept. head, and my managers are now recommending me for MD1 training. I want to keep moving up in the company, but I'm not sure if I should stay where I'm at (cause my current position is decent) or make the move into management. If anyone could give pros/cons on either or give me any advice I'd really appreciate it.
they are, and it also would put me in a position to continue to move forward, the highest position i could get with my Associates degree would be a District manager, but I don't know if taking the risk of leaving the union and being at the mercy of store managers, DM's, DC's, and employees is worth the trade off
my take on it is that your next step will be a "suck up" postion" that you will have to ride out for a good 3 to 5 years maybe even more until you become a store manager. once that happens you are in kroger heaven so to speak. idk - seems like they want you part of the pack so jump right on in. but just remember your roots!
Go ahead and do it. I've been a salaried manager for a few years now, and yes it is a head ache more often than not, but it does open other doors for you. Congrats in advance!
thanks again, my main worry is leaving the Union because every job I've had I've been in a union. That being said, i've never had to use the Union or had even the slightest risk of being fired.
If you're a person that is a free thinker and would speak out when you see or hear something not right then you'd better stay put. You basically sell your soul to Kroger when you go into mgmt.- you are told what, when, and how to conduct yourself and implement every "condition of employment" . The more blindly compliant you are the better you will do with them. But like I said if you are a person that might question programs or mandates that are based purely on a profit first master plan of low pay, entry level, part-time workers then you will not be happy and probably will be forced out by middle mgmt that are told not to tolerate any "non-believers".
If you are talented and a conscientous worker then you should use this current position to better yourself with some skilled training in a real skill trade. Face it- anybody can stock TV dinners- you've been complimented and praised because you work hard and get the job done without close guidance from your mgmt. team- that is why they like you and are holding the proverbial carrot in front of the donkey scam. My personal advice- get out while you're young and get a real job to be proud of and have a future as you age. Grocery work is no job for older people!
