Pharmacy tech starting pay
Permalink

I get paid $8.10 per hour, been working since August. I'm certified and union. According to my HRexpress after working 500 hours I'll be getting a 5 cent raise.

Just wondering, will my next raises be only a nickel? Seems like no one can tell me anything about raises, neither HR people nor union representative, also, I did not see any union handbook or employee handbook.

Job is great, it would be nice to know raise schedule though. Any RX techs here who could tell me anything about raise schedule? I'm in Midwest.

Also, I've heard that some states give small raises after a tech passes Level 1, 2 and 3 exams, there's no such thing where I work.

You're better off working at a hospital's pharmacy.

A friend of mine currently works at one. He's currently at about $22/hour and all of the staff are often on overtime, so more money for them.

Around here, pharmacy is non-union completely, but I couldn't tell you what their pay is. I do know they get something similar to merit raises based upon regular performance reviews.

Problem is, I applied to 3 hospital pharmacies, no one ever called for an interv

Also, they often need people working night shifts and weekends and I have a small child, retail pharmacy offers flexible hours that suit me perfectly. I just wish the pay was a little better, it's not like I want to get rich working in a grocery store, but $10-12 per hour would be fair...

Where I work we don't have any Levels :( I asked about it, my manager said we don't have any Level 1, 2 and 3 tests :( So I guess I'll be getting 5 cent raises

disbelief

$8 minimum is about right, since you're paid just a tad-bit above federal minimum wage (unless your state has a higher minimum).

What state are you in? I'm non-union, PTCB certified and also a lead tech. I make well over $12-13 per hour. We don't have levels, but we do have phases that need to be passed. Starting wage is $8.30, after you pass phase 2 (phase 1 is CBT's and you don't get any raises after finishing that) you get a 75 cent raise. It's an intro to data entry essentially. After you complete phase 3 you get a $1.00 per hour raise. This all has to be completed within 6 months, so you go from min wage to a little over $10 per hour. We also get bonuses for meeting goals for MTM, flu shots, and non-flu shots. We are on the same bonus schedule that store management is. Our insurance is also the same as store managements. Ugh, I'm sorry your raises suck so much, we techs have to deal with a lot and know a lot (far and beyond on where the toothpaste is), we really should get better wages.

Thanks for so many replies :)

I asked my manager and co-workers about phases, no such thing here. They said different states have different policies, we don't have any phases, no levels. I'm in Missouri.

We have phases because in Ohio we are required to go through a state-approved training program. We are NOT required to be nationally certified, but in order to be a lead, we must be certified. Being certified also nets you a 75 cent per hour raise.

In Ohio at least, pharmacy is definitely the best position to get into.

There's a guy who works at the Walmart pharmacy, I actually had an interview at Walmart a couple months before I got the job at Kroger. I know the day I had my interview, he was there right before me and he was dressed really nice, in a suit and tie and everything.

Well, he's now a pharm tech trainee.... if Walmart pays the same, then he'll be making a lot more than me soon. lol

Texas Pharmacy Tech starting pay is around 10-11 hr depending on store , and pharmacy manager hours

Tech can max out between 15-17hr pay viva Kroger

Retail is a good option for a tech if your budget for living is less then 28-32k a year.

While Retail is not always everyone career option, Hospital and Mail order pharmacy are other option.
Mail order pharmacy pay as much as Retail however you don't have the rush, or the patients to deal with

Hospital dispensing for their pharmacy pay as much as 18 an hr-
The Highest a Pharmacy tech can make is 25hr , They are the tech whom assist the pharmacy in the labs preparing I.V's
for Patients- This does require knowledge in math allegation as mandatory and I.V drop calculation. These job are easy to find but very hard to to be employed , it only recommended to be a hospital pharm tech for labs if your very good at math

What you do need to remember as a tech, even if the job isn't good the title is.
I quite as a tech but kept my registration going. I started as a pharmacy clerk Kroger 8$ an hr , 3 months then got certified
been a tech for 3 years then i applied at a local clinic for medical assistant whom needed a person very skilled in the world of medicine.

Being the fact i worked in a pharmacy and got letter of recommendation from a pharmacist. the doctor i now work under only took 2 days to hire me salary 38k and clinic closes at 8 and off every Sunday . Not all Medical assistant jobs are related to medicine, if you want you can go to school to be a medical assist but remember school does cost money.

Main point while Tech pays OK, and it OK field if you live alone or share rent, and the fact its a very secure job-
putting it on a resume is like gold to any management in any state.

We need pay attention to our appearance with changing our monologue hair style in to fashionable one or wearing glamorous clothes and shoes. However we shouldn't ignore the daily security in our life such as the GPS tracking or other method used by someone to steal our privacy. Therefore a radio frequency blocker with a good function of cutting off cell phone signals as well as other frequency bands signals can help to create the security system to protect us. And then we can enjoy the quiet and peaceful environment.
