Kroger: then and now
Permalink

Hello,

I found this forum about a month ago and have been going through all the post seeing what people are posting and saying. I have been working at Kroger for 3 months in the diary department. Several or more post have talked about practices such as key retailing that do not really help in doing things in the store. What would you say are the top things/practices kroger that have changed in the last several years. From what i am reading kroger has changed what is does over the the past few years.

the primetime scans have been an interesting addition that I think are a good idea.  At first, like with most things they throw at us, I thought it was stupid.  But when you think about it, you're making sure that holes are being filled.

I also like what they're doing with markdowns of late, ensuring that you don't get stuck with a lot of outdated product.

I've got 9+ years in and it's crazy to think about all the things that have come and gone in that period of time.  When I first started out, you got extra hours if your dept. needed them to finish a truck, nowadays OT is a thing of the past.  They've really pushed workers to get every drop of work out of us.  What I mean by that is because of reduced hours, we're having to cover other jobs.  DSD clerk has to run bread, help with trucks, etc when they used to be left alone to do what needed to be done in the back room.  Now they're more heavily relied on.

Paperwork:  oh man, I don't remember any when I first started (except maybe counting cases to make sure you're pulling your weight).  Now you've got to fill out all kinds of things.  THey've got charts to show just about everything you could imagine.  Some is good (replenishment reports) while others are kind of pointless:   team stocking guide for example:  all that is good for is showing how little man power you'll have for the day
