Can you work as a deli clerk & not have to work with raw food or prepare food? How much is the pay & when is pay?Thank you in advance if you reply to this post.

Also I have social anxiety & wanted to know if I could switch departments after training is over?

Now is a good time to get over social anxiety.

You will be dealing with people 80% of the time and preparing food the other  70% of time.  You will also probably be trained to run a cash register 50% of the time.  Hmm, 200%.  You will need to buy a clone before you start also.

I am shy around people.  But, when I am at work, I do not mind speaking with and helping customers.  Instead of telling yourself you have social anxiety, tell yourself that you like helping customers.

Deli clerk could be doing anything from preparing foods, slicing meat, helping customers, cleaning the department and stocking the cases with product.

If you are younger, you do not need to be anxious around people.  Just relax and enjoy being around people.

Good luck.

I used to be really nervous about talking to people too. In school I was always afraid of public speaking and things like that.

Talking to customers though is easy :) You get used to it quick.

I suffer from social anxiety and I've been a deli clerk for a little over 4 months now. A lot of the time, you will have to deal with customers unless you are in the back doing the dishes or preparing the food. Some days, the deli can be incredibly busy while other days you'll hardly have to wait on anybody at all. But it get's easier. I can easily hold a conversation with a customer when there was no way I could do it 4 months ago. Being around people and actually having to interact with them has actually made me more confident. It might be hard at first, but you'll get the hang of it. smile
