I called in sick yesterday and the manager said I had to bring in a doctors note. I've called in exactly one time in the three years I've worked there. Another time I went home early because I was throwing up in the trash can at the register and a customer complained lol! I know in our employee handbook somewhere it states we have to have a doctors note if we are absent 3 consecutive days. Soooo, I called the union steward this morning and she said if the manager asks for a note I have to bring a note or get written up, but agreed that it was written in the handbook only if you miss 3 days. Really? He's waiving the 3 day rule for me? I'm not missing 3 consecutive days if I'm only scheduled 2 days this week.
OMG I had 15 hours this week, there was probably no problem filling my 8 hour shift yesterday, everyone wants hours since they cut them so bad.
I am going to the doctor, I had already planned on it, I can get a note - it just makes me mad they can change the rules around to suit them.
Did you talk to Thr Union themselves or just your steward? If they, The Union themselves say you can NOT be written up for one call out, then gon with what they say. Also, make a copy of the rule in the union book that shows that particular rule. When they try and write you up, show that section and explain how it trumps the write up.

I just talked to the steward at the store. I'm going to call our union rep today. I will go ahead and get a note at the doctor today when I go, but I'll be damned if I'm handing it over to them if I don't have to!
It sounds like you are trying to cause problems for yourself. As you said you are already going to the doctor, what is the big deal about getting a note.

Yea. It's not like Kroger is forcing you to bow down to your store manager.
Federal law allows companies to demand a drs. note when yo call in sick three days in a row. Thats it. One day? I'd tell 'em no. Stewards are worthless talk to your union rep.

Two things. 1) My health insurance doesn't cover much of a co-pay, and Kroger barely pays a living wage. I would only go to the doctor if I felt like I was dying or if I was coughing up blood or something. Because I made a measly $130 this past paycheck and a doctor's visit would eat up a chunk of that. Let Kroger pay me more and maybe I could afford something better.
2) I wouldn't bring in a doctor's note unless I absolutely had to. See #1. I would gladly photograph a digital thermometer noting my fever. Then print it out. But not a doctor's note. There is a flu outbreak here locally. Emergency room is filled. Doctors offices are taking stand-bys.
If 'my' Kroger required a doctor's note, I would tell them to kiss my phlegm. I can certainly understand the reasoning. That does not necessarily make it right. But that is, of course, how we know Kroger works.

The big deal is according to the rules it's 3 consecutive days missed before you need a note. Not one day. This manager just does what he feels like doing. He does it all the time that's why it's a big deal. Some employees he follows the rules with, others he doesn't.
I gave him the damn note.
When I walked in I asked the floor supervisor where the manager was. She saw my note they had put in an envelope and said "oh no, is that what I think it is?" I just laughed and told her no, I wasn't resigning, it was just a doctors note.
