? about dept managers
Permalink

I have come to find out from others since i wasnt told that drug GM manager resigned. From the people i talk to it was probably the work load since she came from a smaller store to a bigger one. Thinking back on it make sense looking at how she acted has been acting lately. I have no idea who will fill the spot but that is LOVELY part where management will decide what to do! confuse

The backup usually has dibs unless they don't want it/management thinks they can't handle it.

Here they usually make a big deal about transferring someone from another store. When my old dept. head retired they wouldn't let anyone in our department get a promotion, and we got someone from another store. Would have been easier if they had just promoted the one who wanted it, instead of later having her go to yet another store. -_-

Smaller stores are usually targeted by Kroger for closure because honestly, it's too easy to work in one.

Best to start a career with this blasted company in a big store. That way you can handle *any* store.

And Management can deny a backup the position. Especially if the manager recently transferred to the store, as they often want the people running depts from the store they came from.

Smaller stores are definitely easier to run, but they do need to be run differently. You simply can't run a department with the same philosophy in a big store to a small store. Volume hides a lot of problems. I think it's good to get experience in both types.

Department Head positions have to be posted and interviews are to be done by the manager and District Manager.  The position can't be filled by someone appointed by the Manager.

We must be really lax in our division then.  We just have an interview with the store manager and they choose.  Lead positions aren't even posted unless they can't find anyone from within the store to take it.

No, I'm thinking anon's division is just really strict. Here, we post any titled position like leads, coordinators, backups, cake decorators, cutters, etc. But if mgmt already has someone in mind in the store already, they can fill the position without posting it or interviewing.

District manager interviewing all new department heads? Must be a tiny division.
