Creepy phone call
Permalink

We had an angry customer call in and demand to speak to a manager. There were no managers available at the time and the customer on the phone got more and more pissed. Then she started to describe what the girl she was talking to on the phone looked like and what she was doing, where she was standing etc, so apparently she was somewhere in the store watching her but we didn't see her. The girl was pretty shaken up about it.

That is when you ask for an escort when going to your car if need be. Also investing in pepper spray is a good idea in scenarios like that. Too many crazies to NOT carry it. If you do have to use it, make sure your attacker gets a healthy dose.

Thing with pepper spray: If you use it on the attacker, you will almost always get some back on you.

Also, it is against Kroger policy, but Kroger policy can shove it, when it comes to personal safety. But if they see you with it, they CAN fire you for it. If you use it on a customer (even if the customer is battering you (Fun fact: What a lot of people THINK is "assault" is actually battery. Assault is threatening to hurt you, battery is actually hitting you) ) you will probably be fired.

Would you rather be fired or murdered/raped/be on the 9 o'clock news? Either way Kroger doesn't care.

This is why the open carry policy should apply to the workers as well as the customers.

Well, that is more of a LAW, not just a Kroger policy. Yes, Kroger *can* ban ALL firearms on the premises, because it IS private property.

You could probably open carry on your days off... or just concealed carry while working.

Except even the concealed carry is against policy for employees.

So is carrying pepper spray though. Both will get you fired. At least a CCW could save your life, or someone else.

Large can of hairspray might work.

You can always carry a box cutter with you. I don't know how much good it will do but better than nothing.

A box cutter can do some decent damage.

Carpet cutters, especially the older models extend pretty far. Just a quick slashing move to the side and there's blood everywhere. But you still have to get in close to your attacker and hope he/she doesn't take it from you and use it on you.

Pushing carts late at night on weekends/holidays, I secretly carried while outside. Kroger be damned if it comes to my personal safety. I have a CHL but I've seen enough drug deals in the parking lot late at night to not be careful.
