We have a customer who repeatedly stop by at ~11:50pm and is constantly shopping after 12. I do not mean, "Oh let me get the last item" either. This customer will attempt to continue on until 12:15 - 12:30. I'm sick and tired of seeing them do this constantly. Is there nothing we can do about it? It's infuriating.

Every time that happens to me, my afem on duty tells me to go home, and she'll stay until the customer is done. I 'm not staying past midnight because these idiots can't get their shopping done while the store is open. That's why managers exist.
At my store we have a security guard and an off duty officer. Needless to say that it's easier to get people out when you threaten them with a trespassing charge.
That all depends on your store manager. Discuss it with him. We had two guys come in one night and they were filling up two carts. I announced three time we were closing, and at 12:00 am I turned off my light, closed my register and clocked out. I walked out the door with the two guys. The manager took their carts and refused to sell them their groceries lol!
lock the doors at 11:50 then. idk we are a 24/7 store. i would just clock out at my time and leave since they cannot keep you past your time.
Actually, it depends on your union contract. According to ours, if a store was closing for the day, cashiers are required to stay over until all customers have left the store. We don't have this problem since we are a 24/7 store, but still.
we're a 24/7 store but we close early 2 days a year. everytime we leave ontime. we have a person at the main entrance telling everyone to GTFO we are closed. works like a charm. never had to stay over

If they're consistantly doing that, they're doing it because they're selfish and hateful. They know darn well it's time for you to go home. If it were up to me, I would close off the checkout lanes at 11:59. Anyone not in line at the time is out of luck.
It's really up to the store manager. Still... the customer could always be spiteful and complain to corporate if you get permission from your store manager to turn him/her away. The result would likely be the store manager getting a less than pleasant phone call from corporate essentially telling him/her to let the customer shop and the customer would probably get a $20.00 Kroger gift card mailed to him/her for the "inconvenience" caused by the store.
We have a gate we close in the entrance way when it's time for people to stop shopping. One year for Christmas a manager was trying to close the gate and it was almost shut and a lady tried to force herself through the small gap and was screaming that she needed to shop. It was like something out of a sitcom. In the deli we were all laughing at her, it was just so bizarre.
When I was closing cashier at my last store I would make the store seem like it's already closed by turning the front end overhead lights and foyer lights and doors off ten minutes early but that only works in older stores that have switches for all that.
We're a 24 hour store but i know on the holidays we do close early, they repeatedly page before closing time and they go around the store and make sure there is no one else in the store shopping a few minutes before closing. they'll round them all up if they have to lol
I meant to say that the manager is a N-I-G-G-E-R and he lets all his N-I-G-G-E-R friends in when they promise just to grab one thing and hurry like N-I-G-G-E-R-S can do that. They procede to fill up their buggies with snow crabs and **** they buy on EBT.........
When I worked until closing I would start announcing store closing at 30 minutes, then 15 minutes, then every 5 minutes thereafter. At closing time, 12:00 midnight, I would turn off my light, log off the register and do a walk through of the store. If there were any customers I would tell them the store was closed, I was leaving and if they wanted to purchase what they had I would ring them up real quick, if not they could come back tomorrow. I think I used to make stuff up too, like the registers would lock me out, doors were locking, anything off the top of my head I could think of to make it sound urgent.
