Are all your courtesy clerks male in your store? Just wondering as this ran through my head as being a little sexist, with all the males doing the harder works (such as the constant racking of carts in 100+ degree weather).
We have a few women who work as courtesy clerks, but very rarely do they get sent to do labor intensive tasks beyond bagging (cleaning bathrooms, pushing carts, etc). Terribly sexist in my opinion, and when I was CSR I tried sending a lady outside only to be told that store management does not permit women to push carts in the evening and after. There's two women who cashier but are more than happy to push carts if need be though, as did one of our (former) female CSRs. I blame doddering old men who still live in the 1950's and think women are dainty fragile objects who can't stand up for themselves.
no some are females but at my store the males do absolutely NOTHING. they walk off constantly, talk too much to their co workers, cuss, will not help a customer with getting a new item they just say "i dont know what that is" and walk off. they text instead of doing lot, or sit out in their car. i saw one bring in TWO carts the other day, wow.
the females are the same age but do much more stuff, it's probably why they were cross trained when they turned 17.

We have a lot of women who are courtesy clerks. They push carts. In the heat. In the rain. In the ice and snow. Most work better than the men. Some of the men are really crybabies at our store lol!
We have about an equal number of each. We all do everything, including clearing the lot at night. Actually, the girl probably do more deep cleaning here (e.g. restrooms) because the boys can't clean to save their life.
I see female cc's in my store, we have several, and i've seen them do carts too. i don't think there's a sexist issue in my store.
There certainly wasn't at my store when I was a bagger. Male or female, you bagged groceries, you gathered carts from the lot day and night, you swept floors, and you cleaned toilets. We always had two people on the lot during each hour.
I think we're up to 5 of us female CC's at my store. The girls typically don't last as long here, and the ones of us that do, management doesn't want to move from CC because then they'd be seen as sexist. We also get put on bathrooms more often it seems, and I know I've done 3 rounds of hour shift of lot both this and last summer. There are plenty of CC's at my store that suck, but it's both genders and just lazy kids whose parents told them they had to work if they wanted spending money.
It's not just management either, if I had a dollar for every time a customer, male or female, said "Girls shouldn't have to push buggies" or "shouldn't push buggies after dark" I'd be rich.
But then I also just watched a line of about 10 - 15 buggies get pushed in by 3 big strong guys who are all on a high school sport team, meanwhile I can do the same on my own with just the strap, so I'm a bit annoyed at my coworkers at the moment.
I did an average of 11 and that was with the strap. but I'd done up to 14 at a time. If I wanted to and didn't mind wearing myself out I could take 13.
I'm a girl, and I first started off as a CC. It was, and still is, pretty even at my store.
I pushed carts, cleaned bathrooms, and did floors just the same as everybody else. Didn't matter what gender you were, we all had to do it.
I'd happily let guys take over my carts if they asked, though. (Mmgt didn't care as long as it got done.) I liked doing carts on nice days, but any other time it was like, "uuugh".
