So we just had a newbie in start out in the Fuel Center this week. This coming week they are getting the same amount of hours as I am but I have more seniority and a full availability.. Even though my manager did give me better shifts (Only one day of closing this week and the other 4 days are mid shifts), I was wondering if it's allowed for the newbie to have the same amount of hours or am I getting screwed over? I'm still not sure about seniority and while I understand that sometimes we need the new people to work more hours, I certainly don't think it's fair that I get the same amount of hours even though when I was the lowest in seniority I never made it above 30 and her first week alone will be over 30.
If they're counted as training hours then technically they don't count towards the hours allotted to the department. If a department is allotted say 300 hours a week, then those 300 hours have to be divided up among the current employees according to seniority and availability. If they hire someone or even more than one person, then their hours are added to the schedule. However, they don't count as part of those original 300 hours. Once they're past training, then their hours get worked into the schedule according to seniority and availability.

At least they didn't cut your hours. When I was working 4 to 12 they hired a girl and gave her 4 to 8, and made me work 8 to 12. Half of my hours gone and I had to work until midnight. She quit after two months and I got my hours back.
Yeah, I'd be glad for the help as long as your hours aren't getting cut. Our poor fuel lead is down to her and her back up. She's been having to open and close the fuel center. And of course with school starting and having a co manager quit, leaving us with only 2 and our store manager being killed in a car accident last week, there's not been anyone to help her out. If I have a cross trained cashier in my department, I will insist on them being on a lane if the front end has someone trained in the kiosk just so she can have a lunch
