it is so stupid! particularity when they are cutting cashiers hrs. so i have one big lane open and one small lane open 10am till 4 pm. plus one uscan person.  its madness plus they get the worst baggers to work instead of the good ones. to explain at least 3 of our baggers are mentally handicapped (one actually drooled into a bag of produce once) please note i am not against mentally handicapped people. and they all work at the same time usually instead of scheduling one slower bagger with 2 faster baggers. it gets a little frustrating when i get told that our numbers are dropping when they don't give any help. plus i am under orders not to call anyone else up from other departments.

Same thing at my Kroger. We are doing the stupid 1+1 thing. My store has been very busy lately. Alot of the cashiers are leaving because they are starting high school / college. We hired new ppl but they quit already because management sucks . And same thing about the mentally  handicapped workers. I have nothing against them as well but I prefer them to hire that can actually get the job done. I have one that likes to wonder off and I find myself chasing after making sure he stays up front bagging.

And others, they arent capable going out and getting buggies. So its frustrating when they are the only baggers we have and there are zero carts in the lobby. I am at the point where im just over Kroger and actively looking for another job. I never really liked the job but i gave 100%. Lately it feels like i have been doing double and triple the work.

It's funny, they want us to get our que scores up and they don't want us to call people from other departments. It's like this at a lot of stores.

I called it "Kroger math."
1 + 1 = 3

Two people expected to do the work of three or more, or, in many cases a a courtesy clerk, a single person having to cover the work of what two people normally do.

Its a big circle of events. Front end has no hours. Call up produce/grocery/floral every 5 minutes to cashier. Que scores go up. Produce/grocery/floral cant get any work done. Sales go down. Hours go down. Cant call other departments to cashier. Sales go up. Que scores go down. Start calling other departments up because sales improved.

It continues over and over again. On paper the whole relief cashier help seems like a good idea. But I'm sick of being called up every 5 minutes to run register for 15 minutes. What pisses me off is most of the time the front office people are standing in front of the registers calling up relief help when they are not doing anything at all. I know they need to be available in case they get someone in the office, but theres always 3 of them standing and talking while they call up people. Then when I'm working in our cooler and cant hear them calling me up, I get chewed out for not coming up to help.

Kroger Logic: 1 clerk can do the the work of 3 in a shift while being a cashier for an hour and a half. Makes total sense.
