Last straws....

Finally had the last two/three experiences that were the straws to break the camels back, so to speak.

  • First, I heard from a reputable source (a head stock with about 20+ years with the company) that when the new Marketplace store opens up locally, everyone has to reapply for their jobs. The f*ck is that noise?
  • Second, I heard from a reputable source at another store that the people that do the new service where they pick out your groceries and bring them to your car? They get paid more money than most others and they can't be asked to help out in the rest of the store.
  • Lastly, the f*cking third party jokers selling stuff. Seems like there is one in my local store every damn week, but now they're showing up at the fuel center too. Damn, I just want to shop, not be hawked to!

So I'm starting to shift everything away from Kroger. Meijer is just as clean, cheaper on some stuff, and has wider isles with no sh!t crowding them. CVS can fill my scripts just as easy and cheaply. I've already got a new cell phone provider in mind, once my plans run out on my iWireless phones. I'm done and gone, but I'll still hang around to shoot the sh!t with all y'all.

Glad to know our union dues are being put to good use.

1st:  That is how it works here.  Everyone has to reapply for the new store.  Full Timers do not lose their jobs.  They are moved around to different stores if they do not get into the new store.  Then, those employees they are replacing in the other stores get moved around.  It smooths out after 6 months.

2: Have no experience with the service yet.

3:  Yes, they are very annoying.  Always in the way.

1. We're building a new marketplace(potentially mini-marketplace) to replace an existing store in 2018, all employees will have to reapply but will take priority over new hires, so the likelihood of getting back in is pretty much 100% considering the employee count will at least double if not triple. Just like when we took over another local grocery chain, they pretty much all kept their jobs, even management. I don't see the problem here, nobody is losing anything. From what I gather, the reapplication process is merely a paperwork issue given change of address etc.

2. Are they going to be a Kroger employee or third party?

3. We've had somebody selling bamboo pillows last week, we're already a small store and it took valuable floor space that is usually used for displays/customer traffic. They should just be outside or in the lobby, not in the store in my opinion.

You don't have to reapply for your jobs at a new marketplace. I helped open one up and all you do is transfer. You still keep all your benefits as well.

If full timers are guaranteed to keep their jobs, and part timers have to reapply, that means like 70% or more of the employees have to reapply. They'd be freaking nuts to not hire any of them back, imagine the training nightmares.

In my district it's just a force transfer if your store is gonna close and be replaced by a store geographically near your store in the same district. Neither Kroger nor the associates would gain anything from re-applying.

Everyone in the store must re-apply by filling out a form. Everyone is guaranteed a job either in the new Marketplace store or a surrounding store. Store Managers, Co Managers, Department Heads, and HR are not guaranteed their current positions. They must fill out a form and interview for their positions. If they get replaced, then they have the option of taking another position in the store or transferring to another store. Going through this now as we are getting ready to open up a new marketplace and I am a department head. It may work differently in different divisions/markets.

That's asinine. You're already working for them; why not just have you fill out a transfer form instead of going through a rehiring process? Seems needlessly complicated.... but it's Kroger so it should be expected, I guess.

[Krogrr's] asinine.

Southwest can  b a r e l y  staff new stores, what with the handsome compensation, courteous treatment and all.  Suddenly culling numbers of experienced people would seem out of the question . . . but never underestimate corporate greed and stupidity.

Maybe the above explanation was misunderstood.

When one store closes, all full time employees have to sign bids for the new store.  I think they keep a lot of the part timers.  The full time and part time employees that do not get the bids are transferred to surrounding stores.  The people that get displaced at those stores are transferred to other stores.  Some retire,  but eventually the dust settles and everyone deals with it.  I do not think  anyone is terminated or left without a job.

Bottom line, there are only so many employees and so many hours. I'm betting a LOT of peeps are getting screwed raw.

Management, Department Heads, and HR are the only ones that actually have to go through the interview process. Everyone else does just sign a request to transfer sheet and can mark what position they currently hold and what positions they would be interested in at the new marketplace store. Sorry for the misleading wording.

I see so it's more of a "job bidding" thing than a full on fire/rehire. Got ya!

I work at the first Kroger to get the click list-online shopping. We have had about 12 stores come train

At our store (383). Basically they have so many orders to fill they can't possibly help out on a regular basis.

But on the days they are slow to get their hours they are sent upfront to cashier, I have seen them stock I. Grocery

Frozen foods even saw three of them shucking corn. That being said its been awhile cause are online shopping has boomed

Most are working 12 hour shifts and they still can't keep up. They are doing close to 180 orders a day.
