So I have been working at Kroger for a little over a year now as an overnight grocery clerk. Probably never would have taken this job if I'd known ahead of time just how stressful this job would be, but I guess that's another story. I started out at $8/hr and have gotten 2 $0.50 raises so that I am now making $9/hr. In January of next year - at the 1.5 year mark - I am suppose to be getting another $0.50 raise. I was just wondering if this was normal for this type of position because in a lot posts I have read, people have been complaining about getting really small raises.
I get and will be getting 5 cents every 1044 hours, which is approximately every 6 months. Even if union contract changes I don't expect anything different. Just sad, because I do love my job and it's disappointing that I earn so little for being a hard working employee.
Our contract gives very small raises for the first 3 years of employment(assuming part time) You are still making under 8$ an hour after 3 years, then the big raises start to kick in, $0.75+ every 6 months until you are topped out.
I have no idea what our contract gives, but I am also not part of the union, so maybe that is the difference? I will tell you that if I was getting 5 cent raises, I probably wouldn't be doing this job anymore

That's not the reason. Raises are negotiated by the union and you are able to take advantage of them even if you aren't in the union. I've been getting 0.10 every 6 months for the past 6 years. Local 400. It sucks.

I know CC's don't get raises typically. But do they have a set time limit on that with the first 3 year thing? I ask because we have several special needs guys that work CC with us and it would be pitiful that after 10+ of working they didn't get any sort of raises.
And for all the work courtesies do they NEED a raise and DESERVE one. However if they ask about it they are told "you don't get one,"
"Don't like it....quit or get promoted," "Deal with it."
It's unfair to them. And yes... Our old manager actually said that to one of our courtesies 2 years back.
Glad that racist ******* got fired
