Wages/Walmart

I am sick of hearing how Walmart needs to make more money and the UFCW is backing them. In our town they start at $9.00 and may start up to $2.00 higher depending on experience. Many people at Kroger work for years to make what Walmart's starting salary. Our pay is joke and we are paying union dues so our union can support non-union employees in their fight to make more than us. Is it just me or does this union seem like a scam?

My sister works at Wal-Mart and makes more after 3 years than I'm making after 11 years with Kroger.

It is a scam. You will see your rep once a week if your lucky. The rep will give you some encouraging words then proceed to take money from your check to support the unions political agenda

The only people I've seen on this forum who still whole-heartedly support the UFCW are the long-timers who remember when the union was still good, and as yet uncorrupted. They kinda remind me of those Japanese soldiers left on the south Pacific islands, thinking the war was still going on.

From what I've read here, you'd have to have rocks in your head to not at least seek out a better job than the current Kroger.

Btw: Walmart does have an aggressive starting salary.....but their meager part time hours/open availability demands are very similar to Kroger. The only real advantage is not having to pay a useless union.

In summary, it's like Ive always said----if you have other options than non management retail, you should explore them.

With the way Kroger does business now, I doubt anyone is going to stay around long enough to get a pension.

I don't whole heartedly support the union, but i do feel that without the union, we'd be just as screwed. The union isn't causing the low wages, the Kroger corporation is. Without the union they could simply not give raises at all and keep everyone at minimum wage forever.

The union doesn't negotiate for higher wages the always negotiate for the pension, health care and other stuff first

Damn right. Not all or even most, but there's waaaaay too many worthless jag offs hiding behind their unions..........kinda like certain political offices without term limits. When you know your check is guaranteed forever, where's the motivation to do any thing?

nocturnia, 100% agree. i have never worked at a place with so many lazy a$$ people. what's worse all management does it says is, "yea we know, sorry.. " when i have to pick up their slack. they know i work so i am always stuck under the worse of the lot, gotta do my job and theirs. i have little seniority so get the worse hours and shifts, in a 5 hr shift at night i get done what two ft people can't (well won't do) in a full 8 hr shift each, that's 16 hrs for two people don't jack sh!t unless they are nagged to do it, and then they fine excuses to not do it. i am not a young person, and i have been to the doctor more since i've been at this job than i have anywhere else in my entire working life due to the shear volume of the workload due to lazy a$$holes they can't get ride of!

Every news article is how Walmart pays their employees crap..never any negative towards Kroger even tho the wages are lower for part timers. I have customers tell me they shop here because Walmart don't take care of their employees, they are shocked by my answer. Kroger is working the union like a 2 dollar ho feeding Kroger record profits and cheap labor while the union keeps controlling the media.
