I'm a bagger and I just started working here (almost 2 weeks), bagging and clearing the parking lot is the only thing they've shown me how to do, so when I get shifts that end at late hours I don't know what to do.
So yeah, I just clock out and leave without saying anything. I've done it quite a few times now but no one has said anything about it, probably because I'm not needed? On paper it sounds really ****ty lol and it probably is, but to me it just doesn't like I'm need it at those hours. Is there a way they could fire me for it?
Yes, they can fire you. It's called job abandonment. If you still have a job, never leave early unless your supervisor or management says you can. If you need something to do, grab some paper towels and some cleaner and start wiping down checklanes. Grab a broom and start sweeping. Offer to do go backs.
I've been working as a bagger for a month and a half now and I know what you mean by the late hour stuff.
But stop leaving. They still need you. Bagging and carts isn't the only thing you do. I know they suck at showing you how to do anything, but there are stuff you can do. Take wine caps to the back, sweep, trash cans, clean the register belts, etc. Just ask the manager around or some other worker and they will tell you how. Sometimes customers will show up randomly and a bagger will be needed.
You will easily get fired if you keep leaving early. Heck you might even get fired for doing it now if you've already done it a crap ton of times. Hopefully not though. :)
I would say you've gotten lucky. Leaving without managers approval is considered voluntary termination of your job. If management wants to push it, they could fire you on the spot if you left before your shift was over if you don't have a medical reason or manager's approval.
As others have said, if you need something to do, talk to your PIC and see what they need done. There's always something.
Leaving before your scheduled shift ends without notice... Yeah, you'd be gone real quick at my store. It's called job abandonment. NEVER assume you are not needed. You can sweep, do gobacks, sweep outside, clean checkstands, do more gobacks etc. Ask checkers or night supers what to do if everything else is done. It's not a matter of IF you'll be caught, it's a matter of WHEN you'll be caught.

It doesn't sound to me like you are ready to enter the workforce. I think you have some growing up to do before you think about a job.

With this kind of attitude he may never be ready to enter the workforce...:/
