How do you sign up to the union?

I have been working with Kroger for three months now 40-50 hours a week. They refuse to give me full time and the managers say they don't know how I would sign up for the union. Please help.

It won't help..i did the same thing and then union told me "no space open". Store manager worked around it to make one for me. If they want to give it to you, they will. Now im stuck with the union after they did nothing...

As long as you worked at least 40 hours every week for 8 weeks straight, you will become full time no matter what. The system will automatically make you full time. I made full time back in April and our store secretary (for lack of a better term) didn't even know anything about it till I asked about my pay. However, I have had nothing but issues since becoming full time. You have to wait 6 months after being full time before you even get a raise for being full time. And now I can't enroll in Full Time Blue Cross Insurance, all it's allowing me to sign up for is the Part-Time Kaiser CRAP.  Union rep says it's Kroger's new system. They go back and look at your previous 6 months to make sure your full time or not. Well since I just got full time in April it hasn't updated in their system yet that I am eligible for Full Time Insurance,

That's only true for your specific contract, there are contracts where no matter how long you work 40 hours it won't automatically make you full time.   Some are 8 weeks, some are 12 weeks, some are bid only, some who knows.

Of course management is going to act all dumb and clueless about how you go about joining the union. Most management teams despise unions. Despite this, management is supposed to ensure the union information, such as posters and numbers, are displayed someplace that is easily visible and accessible to employees, such as in the break room or near the break room. Also, every store has a union steward - an employee that's in the union, knows the contract well, represents employees when management wants to write them up, and coordinates with the local union office - so ask around to your fellow employees and find out who the union steward is in your store. He/she could work in any department, except for meat/pharmacy, as those two departments usually have separate unions. Once you find out who he/she is, arrange a time when the two of you can talk and explain your situation to him/her and go from there.
