I work as a courtesy clerk and I've always been a little paranoid about being fired. I'm fairly confident in my ability to do the job but sometimes I get the idea that I might get fired. I've made a few mistakes in the past but I hope nothing it wasn't anything too bad. However, this week I've only been scheduled for two days and while, my schedule does vary from week to week, it seems like a bad sign.
So what do you think are some signs that you're going to get fired and do you think I'm just being overly worried about it?

If you're within your first 90 days, you can be fired for pretty much anything. It's your trial period. That said, usually unless you don't show up or show up late a lot, have an attitude problem, or are really terrible at your job, you'll be fine.
After your 90 days, you're much much safer, I've only seen long-time baggers fired for two things: Theft (e.g. finding a wallet in the lot and pocketing some of the change), and not showing up.
I have only seen baggers fired for poor attendance and theft. They were trying to sneak beer out with the garbage and got busted. Keep your conversations professional with your store managers and you should be ok.
Other than that, it is very unlikely you will be able to do anything wrong. Smile, be friendly, approach your tasks with confidence and always try your best. You are over thinking your job. There is a lull between Thanksgiving and Christmas plus management bonus' are being scrutinized. I just checked out our schedule for next week and the hours have been slashed for the part timers. Let your CSM know they can call you in on your days off if they need extra help.
As a CC, I do not recommend joining the union for you. I will probably tick people off by saying that. Under our contract, you get same privileges as the union members. If you are a lifer and like working for Kroger, then join the union when you transfer to another department.
Typically you would only get fired for stealing, attendance, or harassment. They would do anything but pay you more to get you to stay because the turnover rate on the front end is ridiculous.
