Status 3

Anyone in Cincy/Dayton know what the rules are for status 3? Like what happens if someone gets it but with the department there aren't enough hours for everyone.

Say for example your department gets 140 hours and you have 2 full time status 1s. They get a total of 80 hours which leaves you with 60 hours for the rest.

Status 3's are guaranteed 34 hours. Say you have 1 status 3 person, so that leaves you with 26 hours. Say then you have 3 people left in the department. That's not enough hours for everyone to get the minimum 12 hours.

So what happens then? Does the bottom seniority person get no hours? Do they have to transfer to another department? Or do they try to rip off the person who got status 3 into going back down to status 4? The way I understand it, the status 3 person HAS to get their hours first but i'm not sure.

I dunno exactly how it works, but I've seen it happen before. The bottom seniority person literally got 0 hours for 2-3 weeks before she transferred to front end. I dunno if it was by choice or force, but she told me that she was much happier there than in the deli.

Department heads, backups, and status 1 get their hours first.  Status 3 and status 4 get what left, hours are given by seniority.  Sadly, this means some people get no hours.  But, it's a union job - we're all told this when we're hired.   So it shouldn't be a surprise to people when they are told that seniority rules - no exceptions.

Well i'm just making sure because i just got status 3 as well as someone else and i don't want either of us getting ripped off because the people below us whining that they aren't getting any hours. it's taken me this long to get status 3 and i'm paranoid that they'll try to take it away from me.

Don't worry they cannot give your hours to people below you as long as you don't limit your availability.  Keep yourself open and available and you will be fine.  Watch the schedule closely and the first time you suspect wrongdoing, say something.  If necessary, get the union involved.  Some bosses try to be slick, so watch out.
