At my store a floral clerk and produce clerk have moved up to the front end. They both have obtained full-time status, so they get 40hrs every week and I noticed that every part timer is suffering, not because they need days off/requested off.
I have gotten less hours since this happened as well, but I have seniority over both of them. So why am I not getting more hours? Can seniority trump status 3 or whatever it's called? It doesn't seem right, since some cashiers have been here since 2000 or earlier.
I know that if I transferred over to grocery, I wouldn't get jack based on seniority. Can I do anything? I haven't asked around but I imagine it's likely that other fringe full-timers like myself are ticked too. I've even noticed some full-timers have gotten 35-38 hours instead some weeks since these transfers, and again they have more seniority and no obvious requests off.

My buddy from grocery was almost at 40hrs a week because it was shorthanded but he's getting 20hrs on average up front now. Now my seniority seems to work against him.
well that's because according to the union rules, full time trumps part time. always. even if someone has been there 4 months and gets full time they automatically have seniority over a part timer who's been there 20 years. that's just how it works. Determining seniority by department experience goes against scheduling rules throughout the union rules as well.
Under our contract you can loose your full time status. They don't have to schedule you 40 hours. There are no guarantees on hours under our contract. Under ours, since everyone is classified a clerk, I could claim their hours if I had seniority.
if they are status 3 and you are status 4 they get hours before you, regardless of your hire date. That's how it is. I can imagine that it's crappy when someone pulls that stunt though.
