Temporary change of schedule...

My current schedule is mostly mornings. With Sun and Fri being open (which I'm mostly closing) and everything else being 6am - 2pm.

I changed this back in August of last year.

My questions is... coming up here soon I want to try to open my schedule a little more.

Can one 'temporarily' change there schedule for a week... or from time to time to be more open? I want to try to make myself more available, but I don't want to do so permanently yet due to school...

And IF I do so, after that week, would my schedule go BACK to the mostly 6am-2pm or would it go to 'open', like I had before August... and I'll have to fight to get it back the way it has been...?

I think on the e-schedule, it says you can change your schedule from 'so-and-so date to so-and-so date'. Temporarily.

If I changed it for a week to all open temporarily, as I'm taking a break from school and in future want to try to open my schedule up...

If I change it for that week.... AFTER that week ends will it then go back to my old current schedule, where I mostly am available from 6am-2pm, or will it completely reset, making my schedule all open, and I'll then have to try to get it back to the way it was/current schedule.

You can change your availibilities as often as you like.

If you decide on Monday that you don't like your Wednesday shift, just work whatever shift you would prefer.

The whole world revolves around your life.

I'm sure your coworkers won't mind their schedule being changed around to make you happy.

I'm just wondering if I change it for the one week, will it go back to my current schedule... or will I have to 'fight' to keep it. It took me a long time to get my schedule that way. I'd hate to try to get more availability while I have the chance coming up,  only to have to fight to get my current schedule back...

(As for my co-workers caring about my happiness, this I doubt, lol.)

ME ME ME

That's all you kids think about these days.

Its societies fault really.

Kids are rewarded for everything they do these days.

Lose a soccer game here's a trophy.

There is a graduation ceremony every two or three grades instead of just after twelfth grade.

Can't read or write, that's alright it's our fault don't make any effort on your part.

Then when a kid gets a job they expect everyone to change everything around to make them happy.

Huh? I don't get the Me,me,me commit?  This person is taking a break from school and wants to be more available. Maybe this would allow fellow co-workers to get some time off due to this persons being more available.   This person is looking for some sort of assurance of resuming current schedule if they were to  probably return to school at some point.  While I would agree with your trophy example most of the time, I dont think this is the case.  If they wanted to hose their coworkers I doubt they'd be here asking.

The hell are you talking about?

I'm only making myself MORE available? Not less?

Not taking anyone's hours... not asking for special treatment... I have the opportunity to have a more open schedule coming up- which I'm sure my store needs as we're very under-staffed and me and others are always getting calls to come in so... what in the world?

School comes first. Always. Sorry, but I've no intention of being a career cashier.

And if I have the opportunity to make more money and help out by getting a free week coming up, that's a bad thing?

You didn't even answer the question...

The hell you on about?

Trophies and graduation... what in the world does that have to do with what I was wondering about?

All I wanna know is, if I temporarily change my schedule for a week, what happens after that week is up? Will it go back to my current schedule? Or will it reset completely to everything being 'available' and I'll have to request a schedule change again to keep my current schedule...?

The same thing happens at my store(Cincinnati/Dayton area) - part timers with "limited availability" get earlier starting times, nights and weekends off - I know it's in the contract thanks to the union, but it still doesn't seem fair or right to the people (full timers)  who have put in years of dedicated service to the company.

What happens after I change it temporarily though? It goes back to the current schedule?

OP is asking a valid question.  He is not trying to change his schedule in 24 to 48 hours and inconvenience other employees.  Is your schedule wide open?

I would just talk to the schedule writer and let them know you would like to work more hours.  Tell them which weeks you are available.  If they really need the help they can schedule you in.

Yeah instead of messing with the availability, i'd talk to your supervisor and say "hey next week i'm available all week" and go from there. :)

if you're in school and have a week break and would like to work more hours why don't you talk to your supervisor about it?? they can pencil you in or make sure to call you first. that's what I always did. it's too much work "changing" your availability for 1 week and needing it approved etc. unless that's how your boss wants it done.

Oh come on!  Grandmothers and grandfathers are young in today's day and age.  You can be a grandfather at age 35 which isn't really that old even to a teenager.

Manager is on vacation. I asked a supervisor and they didn't know but then another cashier said you might be able to do it online and the supervisor said to try that but they both didn't seem to sure about it either...

just talk to whoever is doing your schedule for next week and tell them you can work such and such days. everyone's really making it harder than it should be.
