What is the reason behind cashiers and baggers not being allowed to have bottles of water on the front end? We always could have water before but no more. And will the union do something about it.
I really doubt that that will fly, as I know one of my MODs has gotten us water before if we are super in crunch mode and busy like heck. (think "can't take a break without being called back early kinda thing") If we are that busy, then we have them at our stations.

At least you aren't a courtesy clerk! We had a new comanager a year or so back and the first thing she did was throw out the big thermos of water and the cups they had for the courtesy clerks. I remember each morning they would fill it up, get a bag of ice, get some cups. No more. It gets over a 100 degrees here in the summer for days on end and Kroger took their water away! They also took out the Coke machine in the breakroom. You want a drink? Pay $1.85 for a bottled soft drink or $1.00 for a bottle of water. Get your drink, wait through the long line, then try to chug it in the 7 minutes you have left on your break.
So, ask to go to the bathroom and then get a drink at the water fountain if you have one.

Sometimes you need a drink of water after how are you doing, do you have your kroger card, do you have any coupons, 16.98 out of 20.00, that's 17, 18,19, 20, do you need any help out with your groceries, thank you have a nice day come back to see us OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again!!! For freaking 8 hours. Water? You need a shot of bourbon with a beer chaser!

I spent nearly five years on the front end. The first two were as a bagger. We never had bottles of water. If you were hot and thirsty when you came in from doing carts, you went over to the water fountain and got a drink. As a checker, you waited until you went on break. You're not going to lose that much fluid just scanning groceries. With some people, drinking bottled water all the time has become more of a habit rather than a necessity. You're really not thirsty. You're just doing it because it's become a habit.

There is no one size fits all. Things like sex, body size and composition, activity, and environment all play a role. Also, you have to remember that the food you eat also contains water. Think of all the water that's in an apple or an orange. In the summer I might drink 8 glasses of water a day in addition to what I get from food, but that's reduced to almost half in the winter. Do I suffer any ill effects from it? No. Taking in too much fluid can be just as bad as not taking in enough.

Last time I checked, I decided if I was thirsty or not, nobody else has that right. Also, when I was a courtesy clerk and it was blazing hot out, I decided to carry a water bottle on me. In fact, or manager makes it mandatory that each and everyone stays hydrated. Especially those on lot duty. Checkers can keep a bottle under their checkstands and take a sip between customers. So far we've had little complaints about it. Those who do make a complaint we just ignore.
