It's been a growing trend for sometime now, and you'll see more retailers with signs at both their manned and self check out lines: CREDIT/DEBIT ONLY. Cash is becoming extinct. I personally don't like this because cash is easier for me to manage......what are your thoughts on this?
I don't like plastic either cuz its too easy to go over your limit, have your acct. hacked, get stuck with late fees and higher % rates, etc. etc. As for going over even on debit, thats easier than people think: there's a time gap between the e servers at the stores/ATMs and your bank. So you can be over drawn and not know it til its too late.
I use a Debit card 99% of the time. I rarely have cash on hand.
I probably write 2 checks a year. To the IRS and Mi income tax only.
LOL, feel ya on the check writing thing; I recently had to order box of em for the 1st time in well over 10 years. There was some business I had that required a personal check----ONE CHECK----so I was forced to spend $24. to buy 200 of them! Yeeeeeah, those things suck. AND you have to send em snail mail. Could we please stack on any more bull sh!t inefficiency here???

In place of a personal check, why didn't you buy a money order or get a cashiers check from the bank?

Or just go to your bank and ask them to print a sheet of checks for a few dollars..

Seconding the money order thing - they're free for employees. And for my rent and my one medical bill that only accepts checks, I use my bank's online bill pay. You can make your own biller and the bank cuts the check and mails it and is responsible for it. It's great for bills that require checks and don't need to be paid immediately.
Get a small 2k regular credit card, use it for everything then weekly transfer payments from bank account for free to cover it. This way you get points/cash back for purchases and you never have to worry about someone overcharging your debit card and getting your rent/mortage money.
I pay with cash for almost everything. The only times I use a credit card is when it's required or simply as a convenience. When it comes to money I live by the following rule. With the exception of buying a house or paying for education, if I do not have the money on me or in my bank account to pay for something, I won't buy it. I won't even finance a car. As soon as I buy a car, I immediately start saving for the next one. Of course this means making a few sacrifices. I don't buy designer clothes. I don't eat out that often. I don't take expensive trips. I have a modest home. I don't spend an arm and a leg on cell phone, cable tv, or internet service. I don't have to have the latest and greatest thing that's out on the market.
